 Post subject: Newer Mini's rust hard!

Isn't it funny how the mid to late 70's Mini rust HARD, and the earlier ones seem to last a bit longer....

Nasty stuff!!

Now most people say it's because BMC / Leyland stopped Rotor Dipping Mini shells in the 70's. The year 1976/77 had been floated around as to when this happened. I watched a video recently that stated that in 1973 Leyland production moved from Zetland to Enfield, and this would have been the time that rotor dipping ceased. Anyone agree / disagree?

I don't know...............this S is the most rusty Mini I've seen.

Hmm I dont know about that :)...

Granny is a 77 Leyland Mini with next to no rust.. Just check out her floor :)..

What is that metal bar thing on teh floor??
I have one of those lying around

looks like its suction capped there sorta

i think its because minis were so cheap that people didnt bother taking care of them, servicing or washing and waxing them etc

Seat retaining bar - stops the later model seats from tipping forward in the event of a crash.

Our hands were going thru the rear panels when we were trying to push it on the car trailer.
We did manage to slavage the interior, engine and brakes out of it. The rest was chopped up with the Oxy and put in the skip bin :( A sad end.

That did cross my mind :wink: But somewhere along the line this Mk II had a front guard replaced. No body number.

Yep I agree I've heard that from a few sources, but the year was 73-74 I believe.. The Enfield plant was very small beer compared to Zetland. Almost cottage industry... :lol:
