Tonight at the ACT Mini Car Club we had someone bring along some rims for show and tell

They were obviously Cooper S 4 1/2 inch rims with drillled centres.

However  ..they had a large offset...deep dish on the outer rim section :!: :?: :?:

They do NOT look like widened rims (no welding in sight)....

Could they be Special Tuning rims with an offset :?: :?: :?:

Hi Mick! Sound like 'reverse rims' made by Dunlop as per genuine S rims, but with rim on backwards for more offset. Never sold as an original equipment part (not on car), but plenty of aftermarket and mini se7en racers!
Actually designed for drum braked Mini's to give the same track as S's! 8)

any idea what number were stamped on them Mick? the chrome S rims I have on my S are reversed, but they have the same number stamped as normal S rims - LP883... at Wagga, I was talking to someone and they said they found a widened S rim that had a different number on it, but no idea what it was

Simon, one of them was stamped LP918...and tuther had a different number (I believe)....

Thanks Graham....didn't know Dunlop did that....mystery solved. We didn't think they were wider than 4 1/2 but they could be 5s I suppose...

BTW the fella is looking for another two to make a set....

i think i have some rostyle rims the same.. i posted a pic of them some time back and the consensus was that they had been reversed but they sure look original, ie not cut and rewelded

there are places that make custom rims, maybe they were made but they were most likely brittish reverse rims, look at some brittish mk1 cars then you will know!

dragging this up again - my dad just scored one LP918 wheel, and is going to have a squiz at another 2...

I'm not so sure that my current S rims have been reversed anymore, is there a difference between a 4.5" MK1 S rim and a 4.5" MK2 S rim?

LP918 was the stock S wheel I'm pretty sure, the LP883 as said was not made for Cooper S factory fitment. They do look nice on my mate's Mk2 S though. Fill the flares nicely.8)

Other way round Kev, LP883 is stock Cooper S rim, LP918 is the S style reverse rim.
