From what I can see, you have not pushed the rubber down hard enough onto the lip on the car.

With new rubbers you have to 'tap then into the corners' with a rubber mallet. If you don't they appear too long (like yours does).

You might need to take that glass back out and really give that rubber a good whack into all the corners. That will stretch it out properly and let your glass fit.

Thanks for your help everybody and thanks to Steve for the pics. I had a windscreen repairer look at it who has installed many mini windscreens and he thinks the rubbers are stuffed. Anyway here is some pics of the engine rebuild, more to come as is comes together and painted. Pics of the gearbox rebuild soon as well. Engine is the original block.

Sorry guys you were all right with the engine. I have had a lot of trouble with the shop working on the mini. I got it back today (after many many months)and looked at the engine number and noticed they have used another block. They did not tell me that they swapped it and probably have used it in another car. If anybody nows where our missing original block is please let me know ASAP. Here is a picture of it. We are going to get some legal advice now. We are extremly ropeable right now- regret that we didnt notice sooner.......Could the block be considered stolen?
This place also left our newly painted mini out in the weather under a tree causing damage to the paint and rust on the floor in the interior as it had no windows in it (left out in the rain).

I just fitted my rear window too. I have the same problem and i pushed my rubber right into the corners. when you install the locking strip most of the wrinkle goes away, in fact i have no wrinkles on the external bottom corners and two minor ones on the top. On the inside of my screen i have wrinkles on all four corners. I called the mini supplier that i purchased the rubber and was advised that the rubber would shrink a little in the sun and this would disapear????

I think the real problem is that the rubber does not come with formed corners hence no matter what you do you will not get rid of the issue.

He wasnt even sorry. At least we are entitled to a full refund, but we have been restoring this car for the last three years and have just finished buying every single new part needed.

new steering wheel horn button thing
brand new original wiring loom & just been rewired yesterday
restored generator
new gearstick floor seal
all new set door hinges
new handles
new fuel cap
new paint
about to purchase set of hubcaps as mine are bit damaged.

We are so dissapointed because we had an 1963 orignal mini 850- all orignal parts (except dizzy), and now we have a 1963 morris shell with a 1975 998 motor. what is the point in that.?????

I paid $ 4000 for the 850 to be rebuilt and restored to original, yet they went out and got a 998 and restored that? ****** morons. I could have bought myself a motor if i wanted to for half that price. It is so hard to find a mini with original motor- especially 850.

I know it's only a car- but i feel sad because his heart has been ripped out after 44 years of being in there some wally comes along and destroys the history of that car.
He was going to be a show car, and a family heirloom, but now he is basically worthless????? sorry for this rant but i am still very angry. this is the wife by the way.... i hope to god some poor mini driver has my motor- there has been a few restored minis floating around lately....

Why don't you go to the police ? They have to investigate every inquirey. If you were going to restore the entire car as original and the block has been changed the engine has therefore been stolen. If the engine block was cactus you should have been notified you need a new block and at the very least your old block returned. ( original engines add alot of value to the vehicle )
I would also take pictures of the damaged car, contact consumer affairs and take the business to court.

I'm really sorry to be reading all this , have you tried to see if they can locate your original motor , do they know what mini they put it into ? I can imagine it would be heartbreaking to put all that work and money into a full restoration on a car to find they have stuffed up so much . Most places will ask you if you wanted to go to a bigger motor or something first , this guy sounds really dodgy and just wanted to use what was about at the time . Let us know how you get on with the legal side of things , surely something can be done as you didn't agree to a motor being exchanged for yours , especially since it was a restoration on a matching numbers car .
