I went to my local Caltex for some 98RON fuel this arvo.....all out :(

Went down the road to the BP for the same..... all out :(

The dude in the BP said no supply for a week or more

Is Caltex and BP fuel the same thing? Why are both chains out of 98RON ?

Anton, yours should run just fine on 95 like Barney does- his C/R is 9.2:1.
I can't tell any difference in it between 95 and 98.
But Ha-Ha is a different story.... :P

BTW I've been told most fuels are pretty much the same when they leave the terminal.

We only have 2 refineries in Sydney, and neither is BP.
I believe BP's fuel comes from the Shell refinery on the other side of Duck Ck.

Caltex 98 is made down at kurnell in their own refinery. ask Warwick on friday night why he did not make you any :)

as for BP it is cracked in the shell refinery at clyde and then BP add their own detergents etc at their own storage/despatch plant.

no ideas why they both run out at the same time

maybe it was all the rain last night

Put 95 in tonight - runs kinda crappy (yea its on the road again) - but here BP have been out of 98 for several days now.

Now I dont trust Caltex anyway and they and BP are out of 98. A certain auto medical personality with a cult status here as well as a certain Sydney engine tuner both advise against Shell for older cars - so this leaves just Mobil, which has almoust no pressence around here - so no 98 petrol for me - and we are supposed to be living in a consumer society.

Mobil 8000 runs OK, nothing wrong with that if you can get it. Optimax works OK too, but I found it not as good as the others in Ha-Ha.

I read just recently that Shell are coming out with a 100 octane with 5% ethenol petrol next year. The V8 racing boys have been testing it to use in next years racing...

Coles Express, in conjunction with Shell, today launched a new super-high premium fuel, with a minimum octane rating of 100, the highest currently available at any Australian service station.

Called Optimax Extreme, this fuel has been formulated for use in most modern, high performance cars and is designed to deliver a higher level of engine responsiveness, sharper acceleration and enhanced power, when you need it.
Optimax Extreme is made with 5% ethanol and as such is the first ethanol-based premium fuel to be sold at Coles Express. Ethanol is a cleaner burning, renewable fuel, which can help to reduce Greenhouse gas emissions. It is also an important component of Optimax Extreme that has helped the fuel reach a minimum 100 octane rating.
I believe the premium quality of Optimax Extreme will excite customers with its performance characteristics and in doing so help to demonstrate the potential of ethanol-based fuels to our customers.

As Australia?s number one fuel and convenience retailer, Coles Express is uniquely positioned to play a lead role in improving consumer perceptions regarding ethanol-based fuels. We are also the only fuel retailer able to offer an ethanol-based fuel in conjunction with the Coles Myer fuel discount scheme.

Shell Optimax Extreme will be available exclusively through selected Coles Express service stations in Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, Brisbane, Geelong and the Gold Coast. Over the coming weeks we will monitor the customer response to Optimax Extreme and if needed will look to expand its availability.

For those of you who would like more technical information regarding Optimax Extreme, I encourage you to visit www.shell.com.au/extreme which contains detailed information about this fuel and its formulation.

*this was taken from internal Colesmyer news.
