I mentioned this in another thread, but thought it deserved its own topic.

I only have a clutch side engine steady bar, it is suggested install a gbox/subframe engine steady or at minium the rad side steady bar.

I have no idea where these steadys attach to and what parts are required for them
The best info i have found is at IME http://www.ime.org.uk/ime/u/ultimate_engine_steady.html

And says that the rad side steady is attached under thermostat housing etc

Can anyone shed some light on this where to attach/how, pros and cons

Once again this is for my EX van 1100 with pudding stick gbox with lots of shakes

Try one of these - one bracket attaches to the 3 bolts on the bottom LH side of the gearbox, another bracket attaches to the leading subframe to floor bolt on the same side. They used to come with rubber bushes on each end of an adjutable rod, but I use nylothane instead. It transmits a bit more engine noise and vibration, but the engine is rock steady.

its a profile cut plate (like the gasket) and mounts under the thermostat. It is sandwiched between the block and thermostat housing. A steady is then bolted to the boxed section behind your motor

You can get one for either side from the UK suppliers as well. Gotta watch the rubbers in those ones though, they're pretty crap and fall to bits pretty quick.

I have a passenger side steady bar on my mini K van with pudding stirrer.

There are two brackets one on the fire wall and one that sits under the thermostat housing with the bar inbetween.

These are highly recommended. The 850 doesn't have that much power and doesn't put to much stress on the lower engine mounts however the 1100 or greater just wants to rip itself out of the engine bay.

The extra steady bar will stop you from frequently destroying the lower mounts aswell.

Sounds like you need the extra bar and new lower mounts also.

Get hold of Graham Russell he has one of the best ones on the market. not the cheapest nastiest mass produced things you buy from overseas mini parts places for 25quid then you dont get any instructions.
This kit is a full KIT with new plated bolts, gaskets, seals, nylocs and the simplest fitting you have ever had.I have one on my car and it doesnt move and have never broken anything with this kit, one bolt will allow perfect accest o engine removal and also getting to the radiator hoses etc.

i purchased the standard clubby mount, it seems alright.. however, i now discover that i have the brackets for the firewall mount (no thermostat mount)

so if anyone wants to cut a few dollars..

dammit!
