I used to get tolulene from Ampol before Caltex took them over. They gave me a data sheet with how much to add to make what octane. I think it was about 500ml to a jerrycan but I am not sure.
I still have about 15 litres....

I poured about 2 litres in this morning, and did about 100 Klm today....
Definitely seemed to smooth everything out, and the Detonation cieling was much higher (well, yesterday it was about 7Psi, today it was about 13Psi)

It was still pinging but I'm putting that down to the 33' heat we had today !

Radiator temps got to about 98' but it dropped rea;;y quickly.....

Sunday (Tomorrow I'm at the Wiggles!) I'll hook up the water injection and see what difference it makes... maybe add some methanol to the water mix.......

Adding 20% Toluene to 97 Octane leaded fuel gives 102.4.

In the past ive used 20-25% Toluene (Methyl Benzine) without a problem with 96 octane fuel.

So i could have gone a fair amount more.....

You could smell it though.... the exhaust had a much sweeter smell, VERY obvious if you are sniffing for it...... just a thought....

I'll add another litre in the morning and see if there is More improvment....
then after this tank, its back to 98 for me ....

you should be able to get it from your local fibreglass wholesaler - it is great for cleaning up vinylester and epoxy resins.

don't put too much in because it tends to make the fuel form larger droplets and it takes more energy to turn it into vapour when used with carbies. whilst this means the inlet will run cooler, with weber carbs and siamese ports you are only making the fuel distribution problems worse

engines designed to run on it can use up to 95% methyl benzine (toluene) like top fuel drag cars, but your average engine just can't use that much. 10% is safe and reasonable, but be aware that some 98 octane fuels already have a high toluene content.

in regards to BP ultimate, i ahve found that mobil 8000 (Mobils version of 98oct) runs very well, i ahve been using that lately as i find vortex just doesn't cut the mustard, and optimax is.....not as good either. but i think maybe 8000 is a bit better that ultimate????

man its been so long since i had a tank of ultimate...

Have you tried Optimax Etreme. At 100 octane minimum it sounds a bit better than putting paint thinners in your tank.
