 Post subject: BODY/ENGINE NUMBERS

Hey all, is there any way of finding out if the motor in my 1275 LS is the origional one and if the numbers match????

In the good old days (pre- VIN) there was- the car's body plate had the engine number on it...:)
But the VIN does not.:(
Unlike in UK there's no registration document here in any state that traces a car's history, AFAIK.
And BL trashed most production records when they scampered back to England.
