VL's have the Nissan engine (RB30), don't know about the VN but i'm thinking it's "holden".

Remember holden is owned by General Motors = American.............

VR is based on a opel in germany.
the cars are built here off a german design (all commodores up to the VZ are
based on an overseas platform) Holden, puts on some different panels etc and tunes
all the suspension etc to come up to what Aussies expect. although based
on an overseas car, the end product is quite different.

The VR had the ancient 3.8 buick motor (whcih origins are from around the time of when our humble mini was being produced back in the 60's!!!)it sounds
like a tractor! where as the VS got the smoother (although similar) ecotoec
motor. the VN and VP also shared the same motor as the VR. Before that the
VL had the nissan motor which was a big step up for holden over what the car
was used to, but due to the higer cost of import it was dropped for the VN.

The current VZ commodores have the Alloytec motor. an aussie built motor that is used in the current 93 Aero in turbo form, will also be used in Alfas aswell! I think the VE commodore is going to be a real "aussie" comodore..
