I was thinking that all these animated GIF's slow down my home dial up connection something savage. In fact, I would go as far as saying that we should ban animated GIF avatars.

I was always told to cater for the lowest common denominator with web design. It takes forever and a day to load this page on a 56k dial up connection......

Even though I was one of the first to use an animated GIF, I think it's getting out of hand.

....my $0.02. Take it or leave it.

I would have to agree... but nobody listened to me about pictures in signatures... (poeee just changed the rule so he could have one himself)
so what should gif avatars matter

yea I remember you saying about sig pictures.

Seriously though, at work I have 512k ADSL and its all fine, but when at home I am on 56k dial up. I dont really give a crap about having dial up at home, bcoz by the time I get home I don't really wanna be online anyway.

My point is that for all those people who have no other choice other than dial up, it must be frustrating to sit and wait for sooooo looooong to load a page on here. It happens to me at home when on here.

Shame you cant put a rule in the phpbb to stop it.

56K connection???? now THAT would be LUXURY!!!!! I'm still kickin around on a 28.8 so stop your bloody complaining!!!

ALSO - my animated avatar is 89 kilobytes in size, where as the single picture i had PREVIOUSLY was 95 kilobytes - so in point of fact my new animated gif will load quicker for everyone.

And there actually IS a rule for avatar file sizes - cant be bigger than 100x100 pixels and cant exceed 98 kilobytes in size.... so there :P
