I have a ding in my drivers side door, is it better/easier to replace the whole door or just the door skin? :?

A friend said he'd fix the ding for me (panel beater) but I'd rather replace it all together.

Thanks

If it's an original 850 door with sliding windows it should be easy to repair as there's only one thickness of steel . These doors are getting very scarce so much better to repair , especially if someone has said they can fix it . If it's a windup window door , might be a bit harder to get into to repair . Not sure of costs or availability or door skins as such now but I'd imagine it'd be a lot cheaper to keep and repair your current door than to replace the door or get it reskinned .

It's a wind-up window door...

Door skins are available have looked into that in terms of price...

Perhaps I'm just being anal by wanting everything as close to perfect as possible

Nothing wrong with that. I prefer the wind up window's better.

How big a 'ding' are we talking about here?
Any form or repairs will require even a small amount of filler to level them out.

Well I really had to get into the filler with the wire wheel.. It was roughly about 15-20mm thick in the centre of the ding :?

And your windows still work? :D
Just about might be better off removing the damaged portion with a hole saw, patching with more steel from the back and filling the front to level.
Better yet, get another door altogether. Wind'ups aren't too hard to find.

Good 850 doors (sliding windows) are VERY hard to find....so you would always repair! Wind up wondow doors are a different matter altogether!

I replaced the skin only on one of my doors. It's actually VERY easy to do.
