Well, I can now rule out the master cylinder.

Got home today after a drive and had a nice stripped green tyre on the car which I hadnt put on anytime recently.....ecided that it must have been black when I left home and some nice person painted it for me...no..that wouldnt happen...so I then decided that I had a leaking cylinder inside the drum assembly....which I did

So, now im not game enough to drive the car.....but...i have a spare cylinder....and some new brake hoses....

This will be a temporary fix, cars brakes have to last maybe a month before I can upgrade them.

Hopefully I can get this done by 2moro arvo. Taking off the drum shoes doesnt look easy :/

its not that hard really just look at where the springs are and make sure they go back in the same. the same thing happend to me and it took me about 45min to take it apart and put it all back but then i have experiance u should take about an hour and a half but yer not a hard job just a bit fiddly.

As long as you have a good manual you'll be fine.. the springs aren't as hard to get on as people say they are...

With the rain storms we might be getting with this heat it would be unwise to have an unbalanced braking system ....if you can do up both side fronts ASAP that would be good

If a wheel cylinder has blown then you will probably need to thoroughly get rid of all the fluid from inside the drums and backing plate and replace the brake shoes if they have become impregnated (there is a thread about burning shoes...but really...it ain't worth it unless you are on the poverty line).

Is your Mini brake drums all around-or disc brakes on the front?
You are lucky that you still had brake pedal pressure and that you did not have to brake in
an emergency.Get it fixed-and check all the other brake wheel cylinders,because once one cylinder fails,the others are not too far off doing the same.....

Brake pads look like they have cracks in them, luckily I have some new ones already sitting on the shelf.

When I braked the car would veer to the left when doing 60 or below.

The pedal was spongy, if I pumped it it went hard and brakes worked properly.

They might still snap, but its worth a try....

Well, we dropped the new Master Cyl in today, went in like butter....

After the freaking pin on the pedal was out (there goes two hours !!)

Looks like the master had been leaking for a while and certainly wasnt helping the "Spongey Brake" feel ....

Bled it all up, took it for a run to settle it all, bled the whole system again, and its like a new brake system . . . . well, a tired, old, nasty drum system, but still, an improvement !

The real fun begins with the Disc Conversion in a few weeks.....

He's got some new "S" rear cylinders, and it looks like the backing plates have already been drilled on the opposite side ready for them !
Was this a factory thing by 1972 ?

I know that i had to drill me Deluxe ones....

Anyway, wish us luck on the conversion!

No it wasn't a factory thing- the only Clubby in 72 that had them was the GT...
if it has 2 holes in each backplate now, somebody has drilled `em since.

Hmmm, lots of things on this car just dont add up ....

1100, Magic wand, (NO hole in floor for remote or Rod shifter)
Holes all through the dash board floor (sort of pressed paralelograms. . . . )
Now the extra drill hole on the rear cylinders....

Wondering if its a council car that has been slightly "modified" using some "S" parts and nto any that actually add performance !
