hey everyone
i got a $3 lockable fuel tank cap
looks just like the ones at the shops for $20

BEWARE
make sure you test the key and turn it
make sure that the locking pins actually move out of the way to be removed

mine werent moving all that much
so i had to stick a screwdriver in it and turn until things went click and gurgle
no, nothing fell in the tank, thats the sounds of $3 being washed down the drain

To be honest I prefer the more expensive genuine ones because I don't have that worry about losing half the cap inside the petrol tank! And even though it is a Mini, you can't just turn it upside-down and shake it!

I'd settle for a couple that don't ******' leak....
The ones that seal on the outside are useless if the neck top is distorted, like 99% of Mini ones are... from people butchering locking caps off..

Originals were `push in and turn', bit like a radiator cap. Non locking. They sealed better. But people didn't go around siphoning tanks back then!

Or Worste!

now that we're on this topic, mine is rusty on the inside (which describes most of my car... ) and looks like it needs replacement in the near future  (Which also decribes my car    )

Is there a mod to cure the leaks? Like creating a silastic or sikaflex gasket around the lip?

One way would be buy some Aston- type flip caps, these go over (or into?) the tank neck and could be sealed to it properly with Araldite or similar.

But, good ones from UK cost $$$.... and people would probably try to knock them off too..
