Its the fancy red fan, spun so fast (will all know red ones are faster) the crank couldn't handle it.

show me a close up of the face of the crank where it snapped and i could probably tell you how many cycles of fatigue there were before it let go

Commiserations Jai... :?
Was this a big J crank or the more bendy but fatigue resistant small J variety?

Well my theory is that some one connected the vacuum advance pipe on the dizzy when i know i didnt have it connected. Also the fact he started to run it on avgas instead of pump fuel which it was set up for. He commented on how well it went with avgas in it.
Detonation and bang, the timing had marks on it and was set to about 34deg on the block but with a vacuum advance also connected who knows where it was.
He didnt notice it or even hear or feel it he just said it went bang.

Kev the crank is an A+ rolled radius crank that was crack tested (electromagnetically), Big journal and std std bearings. all new down stairs.

But as luck would have i have his car so i have some ransom to hold onto, but it was the only south african block in the country, it was also an A+ gear box with the 3bolt main shaft bearing and larger idler gear.

how else must i put it, i mean it still is an south african block but doesnt look the same as all the others i know of.

It now sittingon a display inside my shop on what not to to with timing and lending other people engines. no even a screwdriver goes out of my workshop now.

pity one person has to ruin it for everyone.
especially me, that was going to be my supercharged motor.
