Adeee, my question is:
How much do you have to spend on a free car before it's worth more than you paid for it?

How I got my Cooper S.....

I used to walk past a timber fence that you could see a mini behind. One day the gate was open and I asked the bloke about the mini in his yard. $200 later the Cooper S was mine.

I bought Cooper S (Barney) off ausmini, offered money and he took it, almost changed his mind.

I bought Clubby Van (Jerry) off my husbands boss after harrasing him for a while.

I found mine in the trading post,
Went for an inspect,
And left them with an offer, of which a week or 2 past and they had not replied to me.
And on the day that they rang and said we accept the offer,
I was meant to be going and likely getting an HT with a powerglide,
So i would have been happy with either vehicle,
But i got stuck with a mini

Nursemini and I have a few now..
Mini Ha-Ha- (`70 MiniMatic):
I bought it off my boss for a bottle of Chivas Regal. It was a garden ornament at his mate's place, their kids had jumped the roof so it looked like a fish pond.
Knocked it back out, got the motor running, it had Retreat but no forward gears. So I replaced the forward clutch in the box.
Anyhow by the time it went on the road it sported a 1310S motor, box and brakes from a dead GT. Now has a Morris 1300 auto block bored to 1360, with S crank and rods.
I bunged the 998 'matic into a `75 Blue Clubby, it is probably still running, somewhere.

Barney (67 Pretend S):
Bought it off a friend who had done a bare metal 2 pack respray and full retrim on a 66 Deluxe and hung all the Cooper S ornaments on.
It had a 1098 and Honda Civic brakes- now has 1293A+ and S brakes.

Jerry (77 Clubby van):
Bought this off my boss too. Awaiting respray and retrim. Motor will be Barney's old 1098, or maybe the 1412 stroker.. 8)

Ok , only the current one's , Moke was on the side of the road and replaced a written of 89 corrolla I had , sports850 was in the trading post after the smurf blue 76 clubby was written off , the Nota fang was also from the trading post after I'd chased it through 4 previous owners and lost track of the last owner till it was advertised , the 69 van was from a mate who used to be in Goulburn who sold it to help fund his round Oz bus/camper .

1968 Morris Mini Deluxe - Snowdrop - late 16th birthday gift from my Grandfather. Bought in Gosford NSW 1990 from local paper, roadworthy and registered for $1200. I leaned to drive in it. Sold it in 1991 for $1300 to buy a Gemini (dumb!!). Now resides in Newcastle somewhere. :(

1970 Morris Mini K Panelvan - Skippy - Purchased Dec 1996 out of the Trading Post from a guy in Clifton Springs. Took me 3.5 years to restore it.

1969 Morris Mini Moke - Mopoke - Swapped a Morris 1100S for it and some other bits in 2002. Now almost road-ready.

1965 Morris Mini Panelvan - Trixie - Free if I hauled it out of a paddock in Cobram Vic. Rough body from years of use as a paddock basher. Still sleeping in a corner of the shed. :(

I was talking to a lady at my old job (i knew her for 4 years at the time)..... one day I mentioned that I loved minis and wanted to get back into them...... she said "my husband has one in the shed which he doesnt even look at anymore.... and we need the shed space...... do you want to take it away for me?"....... Ended up offering em 200 bucks for it because I felt guilty taking it for free.
