Here's the problem...

With my Gemini Starter, and Oil pressure sender unit, oil transfer pipe, etc... the vacuum advance thingo on the dizzy restricts how much it can turn, since this isn't generally connected anyway, has any one removed this from the dizzy, I assume that the mechanism inside the dizzy itself will need to be locked to prevent it moving.
Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers
Mat

I did do it on a honda one, and yes I had to lock it up.
I had a similar problem when I changed to a pulsar one but the Doc moved it around and now it has room to move.

If the Doc doesn't answer on how it is done, PM him (Drmini).

Can you turn it 90degrees clockwise? if you can do that then move the leads around anti clockwise one hole each and reset the timing from there.

Ahh i get it. the drive gear needs to be pulled out and turned a tooth or two to get you in the right spot.

Is turning the drive gear an easy thing to do, how would I go about it?

Ok when you have the dizzy out and the clamp removed you will see a small bolt which is 7/16ths. remove that bolt.
Take out the part the bolt was holding in and you should be able to clearly see the drive gear for the dizzy.

take a note of the angle the slots are on and the offset of those slots.

Now get a spare rocker stud (not sure what the thread size is) and screw that into the middle of the drive gear.

Now you need to be cautious because if you drop that gear inside the engine = no fun because you'll need to pull the block off the box to get it.

Slowly pull the gear towards you (it will spin a bit). Once free of the cam turn it in the desired direction however many teeth as needed and push it back in.
Now double check to see if you have now got the desired angle and repeat if nessecary.

If you get lost put the drive gear back in the same way you noted it to sart with remembering the offset of the key.

Easy.

As NAV says use a long rocker stud. Thread on top is 5/16" UNF. SCREW IT RIGHT INTO THE DRIVESHAFT. If you want to know why, ask Cody....

As you pull the shaft out it will rotate slightly. Move it a tooth or two in the direction you want the dizzy body to meve.

Then turn the dizzy in the same same direction, and set timing again.

Thanks NAV & Doc, that sounds simple enough, providing I don't drop that gear in.. Sounds like the best solution for my problem.. I'll give it a go in the morning..

Thanks again guys.

best bolt to use there is one of the engine mounting braket bolts, under the radiator that goes through the big braket that bolts to the gearbox (square block thing)

yeah, you know the one :-)

Removed that gear just this afternoon.

Used a rocker stud like suggested and it works a treat.

Getting ready to put my pulsar dizzy in......and the new cam...:)
