That's not nessescarily true, Adeee. By signing up to these forums we are agreeing to the terms and conditions which state:

Therefore you acknowledge that all posts made to these forums express the views and opinions of the author and not the administrators, moderators or webmaster (except for posts by these people) and hence will not be held liable.

You agree not to post any abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening, sexually-oriented or any other material that may violate any applicable laws. Doing so may lead to you being immediately and permanently banned (and your service provider being informed).

It's still a murky area as to who will be held responsible (poeee or the poster). But if Borris is not making this up (becuase he may not have liked a particular business) and has proof that this happened. Then they would not have a leg to stand on. He is not defaming them if he just posts about a factual experience he had dealing with them.

Then from that experience others may or may not choose to use their services, hopefully the later. Stopping other people getitng ripped off by this business.

i was just letting yuo know poeees feelings on the issue. Feel free to PM peopel the business name. But poeee is preferring to err on the side of caution, as it is amazing what some people sue over.

Sorry to say it guy's but until this has been sorted out by courts or law it's still one persons word against anothers so anyone being named has the right to sue the person naming them , once it's been proven the one naming them can then counter sue for the earlier suit but by then it's all turned into a sh*t fight anyway . Easier not to publicly name anyone till it's all sorted out then someone can say "so and so did this and I had to do this " publicly . It's just the way ot's all going nowdays , don't say who did the work till it's all sorted out or they can say "why should I help you since you've said this on a public forum viewed by X thousand people and cost my buisiness $X ...."

Most definitely.

850 big end bearings are a fair bit more expensive than your typical 998 variety.
Machining costs are the same, its the parts for the build that add up quicker than for a 998.

They prolly didn't place the same value on the 850 that you did, it wasn't that long ago that they were religated as boat anchors and heavy duty door stoppers. Maybe they thought they were doing you a misguided favour?

The shop could also have buggered up thier first attempt, so just replaced it with another block and tried again......

But I dunno, they could have at least re-stamped the engine number to suit.

Big ends are exactly the same from 850-997-998-1098-1275S..
It's the 850's MAINS that are different (same as 948 Minor). But, you can use the shorter 998-1098 ones, which are better material too.

They were told they had to rebuild that engine due to the fact is was matching numbers. They also said when we took it in there he is glad somebody in town is keeping it original.

They should have told us instead of letting us find out.

They said they could do that but it is illegal.

Update, I got enough info to back the machanic into a corner. I got the dates/jobs numbers where my wifes engine went into Repco(could not thank them enough). With that and a solicitors letter(today was the last day) I got a phone call admitting it was all a lie and how sorry he was. This is the outcome of what happened and I am now going to die of stress related illness.
