It was all a lie??? So he wanted to keep your engine?
I dont get it...

Peter.

What had happened was we were pressuring him to get it done for our wedding. He put the engine into Repco for machining about 6 months after he got it and decided to use an engine he already had to shut us up. He then lied and said it was cracked in September 2005 and he did not think I would investigate it myself and take it to the authorities. Long story but in the end the only thing he could do was to admit it was a lie.

No unfortunatly that is the next hurdle. We only got it back as the block. The other engine is still in the engine bay.

if thats the case he should rebuild and reinstall your 850 free of charge....
or failing that he should be forced (ie sued) and made to pay for your 850 to be rebuilt and installed by a more reputable mechanic

Personally I would just be happy to have it back and be done with the bloke. As long as you're not out of pocket, (are you keeping the other engine as well?), get the 850 rebuilt by someone else.

The blocks the most important part. I wouldn't let him near it again.
Good news.

Wat n unbelievable story!!!! Dead set wat a dodgy ass mechanic this guy must be!!! Why did it take him 6mths to send the block to repco???

Seriously, did he actually think he would get away with this, if he tried a bit harder he may of, if he had of changed the engine number!!!

I would take that through the small claims tribunal and get ur money back then get a real mechanic to rebuild ur motor, or do it ur self. The small claims tribunal is really good!!!

Here are some updates. First a pic of the right engine sitting in the bay. Secondly this is a simple one, to put the grill on does the moustache go on first or last? I got it and the grill rechromed and can't seem to fit it. And last can anybody give me tips on how to get the fuel tank out so I can put the light back in on that side? Thanks

Secondly this is a simple one, to put the grill on does the moustache go on first or last?....yep..moustache first..and little extensions....then add grill.

Check to see that the screw holes aren't clogged with paint first.

You may need to very carefully, bend or shape the moustache to get a nice fit.

Here are some more pics. We have taken the mini for its first drive but the engine despite been rebuilt could not last the distance. It will not start now and has been booked into a machanic (not the idiot who "rebuilt" it) to see what the problem is.

Putting it back together.

Some of the parts I have had chromed.

Orginal wheels I have sanded back and painted. Not a good job so I am going to redo them.

Forgot to mention this in my previous post. When I went out to the wreckers this had just been brought in. It has not been touched ever and had all the original bits on it. I felt bad taking all the bits that were better then what we had. It is a matching numbers Feb 64 Morris 850. Probably make a good project considering it had no rust in it. Even had the vinyl boot matt and jack still in it.
