Ok i've just had my steering rack replaced (or steering shaft or something or rather) and it's so much improved. THe shaft was bent like a banana and steering was absolutely terrible.
Now since i've had it, it pulls to the right quite a bit when i accelerate, then goes back off to the left when i decelerate.

Kevin (the man at minitech) said i would need a wheel alignment, and its been a month or so since i've had the rack/shaft/somethign replaced.

Is it just the wheel alignment or something else?
Wheel bearings? CV joints?

Let me know.

Did you get a wheel alignment when you replaced the steering rack?

Might be a good idea!

I'm not gonna make any excuses for this comment: I reckon it's funny that someone called "big willy" started a thread called "pulling"

sigh....

My van, and the cooper s before it changes direction on and off power, I found that one of the collar bone shaped thingys that goes from the tie rod end to the hub had it's bolts a bit loose - I removed, cleaned, checked and locktited them up and it made it a bit better, but it's still there. I asked one of the mini places in Melbourne about it and they said it's normal to have a bit - I've got Cooper S unis, apparently they're known for it, but I'm not sure about that... my other Cooper S does it too, but not as much, would be nice to get rid of it. My clubby pot jointed Mini K never did it

bah ha ha ha....big willy....pulling.....

Yea mate, wheel allignment pronto!! When you replace your rack, the tie rods are screwed onto the ends. Thats where the adjustment is. You can only get that right with the right gauge.

Might want to also check the 'U' bolts in the floor, about a month after I had my steering rack changed they seated in and came a bit loose causing all sorts of weird steering behaviour.

ok took the car for wheel alignment; he had a jiggle with the front wheels and said he cant touch it. He told me to take it to a specialist to fix up the slopiness in the LHS wheel. I was crying at this stage (not really) coz i thought it was something major. This was the thing that was causing the erratic steering. (pulling on throttle).
He told me to go to Pulse automotive a few shops down and see Tom - a mini nut.
I did that and he pulled the wheel off and had a quick look; the nuts on the steering arm where they join the hub were quite loose. Out comes the socket and tightens them up. I thank him greatly, as he didnt want any money, and i was on my way... with a mini that doesnt steer itself when i take my foot on and off the accelerator.

Awesome... the mini is fixed again :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
