the records going back in Vic are very very sketchy - if you're being refused because you don't have they history, tell them it's an old car that's been sitting around a long time - there was no history when I registered my van a couple of years ago, I didn't have any trouble, I didn't have proof of ownership even, the guy just gave me a stat dec form to fill out..... maybe try the Ballarat vicroads office if Geelong are getting too anal on you

however.... 6 years out of rego isn't long, there should be details on at least one of the numbers that they can hunt out of the system - it's often a matter of finding someone ho can be bothered helping

Did you buy the car locally? Can the previous owner help out with old rego papers?

Cheers,

Is this something new? Recent change?
My car was out of rego for at leat 12 years, I just showed receipt of purchase in NSW, and that was all they wanted... 8)
OK it was 12 years ago...

yeah I had the same - my mini was unregistered and stored for 10 years. Blueslipped it, fudged a (original was long lost) receipt and fronted the registry office. No worries, none of the numbers popped up on their nasties list.

Getting a regristration history was a different story. I didn't get it and I was made to feel like a stalker for even trying. Years back - for a fee - we could buy a complete registration history of any vehicle but I think privacy issues and a sexual assault of some sort (not by me) put a stop to that.

I think I have the answer to your problems!

Check out http://www.aomc.asn.au/engineno.htm

They hold the old archives and can probably supply the information that you all need.

one thing i found is just dont go to geelong vicroads, they think they know more than the melbourne head shed, so make your choice, at least smurf got his plates now.
