hey guys how hard is to fit hi-los to your car. the subframes are out of the car and striped and ready for reasembly so what do i do. how do you remove the old strut from the rubber cone i can't seem to get them apart.
any help would be great.

You need to undo the shock and in the front a cone compressor is handy, but you can do it without.


You need to use a big ass chisel and a BFH to belt the cone and the trumpet apart

To put them in the rear is piss easy..just the passenger side with the tank in the way that needs to be removed that makes it a little harder..

and thats an understatment to say "belt" you need the jaws of life.. lol

with belting it with a hammer and chisel damage the rubber cone at all.

No it wont..you belt the bit between that's metal, you wont be hitting the rubber at all.

alternatively you can cut the trumpet..which is easier since you are replacing them with the hi-lo's anyway

I'd look at getting new cones for the front too (second hand rear cones from the wreckers are good for this since they have no weight)...Here is the difference between a 30yo cone and a new one:

got them apart you guys are right you do need a big chisel and a BFH and alot of elbo grease my hand is a bit sore from where i missed the chisel and hit my hand a few times.

mini mad if you don't mind me asking how much did you pay for your front rubber cones and a set of hi-los.

The cones set me back a whopping $40 from a swapmeet! haha bargain of the century

bloody amazing, mine were pretty ratty and the bump steer was shocking comparitively...cornering hard on a bumpy road would see the front end bounce all over the place (bouncing towards the outer edge of the corner)...with the new cones it just keeps track and goes where you point it while absorbing the bumps and dampening the ride. It is still rough and bumpy though

Yeah, they will do fine.

Just say you've stiffened the suspension for better handling.

this job is a pain in the arse without a cone compressor and a ball joint splitter

As Mick said, they'll do fine.

I reckon you should go to the wreckers and flog the rear set of cones out of a clubby. There is no weight over them so they are usually in much better condition than the fronts. You want to make sure they have good threads in them though...shouldn't set you back much at all..
