car was has not been started for about 8-10 months, use to start very easily with one crank.

I tried starting the other day, engine cranks ... but thats it

Things done, battery recharged, new plugs. Using unleaded with a treatment(needle) fuel.

Could the engine be flooded? (Kids playing with the gas pedals )

make sure it has fuel in it, if so check if fuel is getting to carb. IF that is all ok id check wiring to dissy and coil.

you need to systematically check everything

we had this problem with cirtics mini after we painted it, it hadnt been started in about 6 months

check that you are getting sparks to your spark plugs (pull a lead off and hold it close to the block and crank it, should see a big spark between the lead and the block.. if you have electronic ignition or a dicky heart then find a way to hold it close without touching the lead) if not then try your points gap

if is does spark quite a manly spark then pull your fuel hose off and give a couple of cranks (fuel should squirt out) if not give it a few more your lines could be dry, or fuel pump diapham rooted (point this fuel line down the back of the engine away from anything electrical)

if you do gt petrol squirting then.... there are lots of things that could be wrong but generally if the car was running before and not now and you have fuel to the carb and sparks at the spark plugs it could be the needle at the bottom of the carby being jammed open and flooding when you try to start it

this was the case with adams mini so i pulled the carby off (not knowing that it was definately the problem)

i pulled it apart, cleaned it and put it back together.. and vroom, it never started so easy in its whole life) .. probably because everything was adjusted checked and adjusted again.. aswell as the carby cleanout

Pour some fuel down the carby and see if it fires. If it doesn't, my guess would be rusty points???

Yep... best thing to do is pure some down there, then hop inside the car and turn it over!

You didn't say whether you are using very old fuel or new fuel? If the fuel has been sitting for a long time it may be "off". Might help if you drained the old stuff out.

The old fuel may also have dried up in the lines and carby float bowl and is gunking things up. Just undo the two screws on the top of float bowl cover and see if everything is nice and clean in there and the bowl is full.

If it is absolutely dry then you know the cranking you did before didn't bring any fuel up - so check your fuel pump as suggested above by briefly taking the fuel line off behind the carby and cranking the engine.

If the car has sat for a long time it is a good idea to pull all four plugs and squirt a teaspoon full of light oil into the plug holes. Then grab 4th gear and rock the car back and forward say about a foot overall if you can do that - less will still work - watch the pistons going up and down a bit - this is so you ease the rings out of the place they have been in for a year and where they might have decided to get chummy with a little rust in the bore. Then jump in and give it a few cranks on the starter to get the oil pressure up.

Whack the plugs back in, use some fuel down the throat of the carby only if it don't want to start.........voila!! (thats French that is)

Check your fuel filter also...if the fuel is not getting through..is it a manual or electrice pump if the latter can you hear it. if none of these check your dizzy cap and leads...if you have replaced the spark plugs you could have mixed them around...

Duc, i neglected mine for 6 years i did put oil down the bores to stop them rusting though. recommend that to anyone who is going to leave a car for a long time.

but mini-kris i got it started by draining the fuel and replacing with new petrol, pulled the plugs out and turned it over to clear any residual oil, replaced the points, put the cleaned plugs back in, 4 cranks and vrooom
