84 Telstars and 84 Geminis both had the retractor reels bolted onto the top of the back shelf. They will probably bolt into a Clubby if you swap them to the opposite sides.

There is no problem with fitting retractable seat belts (front or rear) if they bolt in and are of the same ADR standard or greater than the original belts. (they should have an ADR compliance tag on them after 73 or 74). You only need an engineer's certificate if you start modifying the body to fit them or adding extra mounting points. You can get retractables for the front now (new) that bolt straight into round nose Minis.

Yep the Toyota ones I mentioned would bolt to the original top rear points, pull is horizontal.

The Klippan retractables I already have in the front of my roundnose. But I had to redrill the bracket (not the car!) so the reel would miss the door pocket.

The impoted Rover minis that were approved in SA this week have retractables mounted ontop of the parcel shelf, in the corners.

But we all know how strict SA is

yea but they would be just as cr@p as the faded ones that were in JAM when I bought him.

I was thinking of getting some from a late model car....nice and black, non faded or frayed.

Believe it or not, Its illegal for wrecking yards to sell USED seat belts. The ruling is that once a vehicle has been in an accident, the belts are deemed as STRETCHED AND DAMAGED, and are therefore illegal for continued use.

I tried to buy some a few weeks back. I told the guy i was using the belts as tie downs on my trailer, but he said it didnt matter - its illegal to sell em. He would face a huge fine if caught.

Go figure.

Anton,
New ones are not that dear, I bought some Klippan 1214? last year.

BTW I have a `new' pair of Klippan static front belts here, black, I only had them in the car a month.
Probably be OK in back if you don't want/need inertia reels. 8)
