Thinking it all over, I think one of the shock sensors sounds the best option. Hooking it up other ways (coil, from alternator etc) means the following:

1) If in a crash, roll the car etc, the engine may keep going. then so does the fuel pump. not a good scenario.

2) The fuel pump won't go unless the engine is going, so 'priming' the fuel bowls before starting after not driving for a few weeks isn't going to happen.

So as Chong said; anyone got the part number for the fuel cut off switch with the reset button?

Cheers
Matt

Just fit a mechanical pump.

With the electric pumps, if you are running a carby your electric pump is pushing out about 1.5 - 3psi but if you are running injection your pump could be pushing out 90psi. So you are more likely to blow off a hose with injection than carby.

If you have a switch on the alternator the car may not start when cold because you cannot crank it fast enough to run the alternator.

If you have a switch on the oil pressure it will not start until the oil pressure builds up which is a good thing!

You could fit a mercury switch that will cut the pump if the car rolls over.

You can fit a G switch but they can be a pain on a rough road because they can get triggered by pot holes and stiff suspension.

There are many ways that one can wire up a fuel pump so if the engine stalls the fuel pump stops pumping fuel staraight away. Like was already mentioned, you can do it using the Alternator to power up a relay or using the oil pressure switch to do the same. But remember you will need the pump also to work while you are cranking and remember the alternator does not charge till the engine fires up therefor you will need some sort of By pass circuit to energise the pump while cranking the motor. Also think this if you do it yourself make sure you know exactly what you are doing as this can be the mistake you did not want to make. There is also a special Oli pressure switch that you can get and it has three treminals. one goes to the pump, one goes to the Ignition switch through a fuse and the other to the starter solenoid. We used these on Geminis when the original system used to fail.

Try a tachymetric relay. This is an electronic relay that supplies power to the fuel pump only when the engine is running. Uses tach pulses generated by the ignition system to sense that the engine is running. In the event of an accident etc. the engine stops and so does the supply to the fuel pump. These can be found in many fuel injected cars at the wreckers.
