hey all,

the daihatsu cahrade turbo..... 993cc 55kw at the fly....roughly 75 horses, not 100!!!

my gf has a g100.......the better of all charades, is a 993 NA it has roughfly 50 hrs, my mini k just beats it off at the lights, .....due to the torque of the extar cylinder and 105cc's!

but for a cheep car you can have fun in,..............and blooody reliable....go a charade!

i would love to do a pulsar GTI 4wd turbo conversion in a moke.....the best thing is that you can cut and chop at the moke as much as u want and it wont be any uglyier!

heheh, MOKES rock!!!!

CATCHYA

BLAKE

you can also get an imported dohc 12v 993 3cyl turbo aswell!, very rare thought!!!!! that would be a good SMALL block for a mini!

There's some good Daihatsu Turbo info on the Daihard site if you can get in (I can't.. as I got Yahoo!)

I've seen Brad's install up close and you are right, I doubt it will fit a roundnose.
Suzi GTI may be dated, but fit neat, shouldn't be hard to get, and there are a few roundnoses running about with them in now. A couple lurk on this board- `dtmini' is one.

<EDIT> I was just down at Brad's, he says some dude in NZ has a Starlet turbo in a roundnose, not on the road yet, but close. Sorry, no URL.

ooooo kay starlet in a roundie.. i want one and i dont care how much
brad.. mate, how much do you know about this guy or did you hear it from a friend of a friend.. i drove an older (89 12v) startlet gt turbo tonight and she rocks.. appearntly the newer 16v 4EFTE is quicker to 100 by a whole 1.5 secs i want one of those ones... i am now addicted to boost.. i loved what i felt, only if that donk would fit in my panny van. so give me all the goss.. how can i contact this guy you speak of

If you found the ep71 12 valve turbo fast then you have to get a ride in a ep82 16 valve!! they are way faster, more torque and power all the way to red line. Just went for a spin in mine around the block testing everything for the blue slip tomorrow, and on only 6psi it is a missile.

Im still not convinced that you can get a 4efte in a round nose without massive mods. The laws in NZ are very relaxed on conversions and he is allowed to cut firewalls up and the like.

the guy in NZ is going pretty slow with hes conversion, he is upto making the frame for it. Here are a couple of pics he sent over. Note there is no room for master cylinders now, they are going in the cab.

have any of your inner guards, front slam panel or firewall been modified to fit... or is it purely a subframe mod to get that lil beast in there?

anyone know how much bigger a clubby engine bay is over a roundy (dimensions anyone?) i dunno anyone with a clubby to measure

width front
width rear
length ds
length ps
height front
height back

Only body cutting was the front slam panel for the new radiator (honda city turbo) and the drivers side inner panel where the engine mount and alternator are now situated. Firewall is about 5mm of inlet manifold.

Car probably owes me around 10 grand, that includes everything to get it from a shell on its way to the wreckers to what u see today. Parts accuired are: mini, toyota halfcut, wheels tyres, ajustable shocks all round, metro turbo brakes, "s" rear brakes, seats, painting, all rubbers, engine mods, exhaust, drive shafts, cv's hubs, fuel system and stereo. etc......but i did alot myself.

If you ask me is it worth it, i have to say a BIG yes!! ive only done 2 kms in it so far and cant get the smile of my face, or the passangers. :D

I wouldnt let it go for under 15 grand though.

did you have to do any strengthening where you cut the panels?? particularly inner sill?

what other strengthening of the body did you do to take the extra power? any seam welding?

The inner seal did not need any strengthing as there is no load on it. The only thing that has to take extra load/power is the subframe, this is all custom made to take the extra power. The front on a mini is all cosmetic thats why people can have flip fronts etc. Its what holds the engine in is all that matters.

the inner arches take the weight of the front mounts of the subframe (which is why you need brace bars on a flip front otherwise what would the subframe bolt to at the front

so the inner arches will also take the kick of the engine tourque trying to spin off the engine mounts (like the way an engine rocks left to right in a N-S setup when you rev the engine)
