Just a quick question that someone may be able to answer.

My A+ motor has a plate that looks to be pop rivited on instead of the aussie type blocks where is it stamped into the block. Is this the way it was done? Seems it would be a little to easy to 'fabricate' engine numbers by switching plates.

Anybody know of where I can search to see what mine is/came out of. Bloke I bought it off said it came out of an MG Metro Van Dan Plas (spelling?).

MG Metro engine and Metro Van den Plas are slightly different engines. The camshafts and heads are the same, but the pistons are different as the VdP has a lower compression ratio (10.5:1 in MG, 9.4:1 in VdP).

Try here, see if your number is listed:

http://www.ime.org.uk/ime/e/eng_nos.html

EDIT - riveted on engine numbers, yes that is the way it was done in the UK. I took the plate off and had the same number stamped into the block just like any Aussie Mini.

those plates were fitted factory, but al aus numbers were re stamped into the block as the plates were removed to comply with aussie design rules.

Back in the `60s, I bought 2 NEW blocks off BMC. Neither had numbers- they never did- the deal was you showed the cops your block & receipt, they gave you a `Fuzz #" and told you where to get it stamped, then you took it back to be checked.

My 1st block (in `66) was N66 1771 P. How's my memory... 8)

All I can say is they must all be honest in UK with those little rivetted plates- villains would have `em off in a jiffy here!

`88, I believe. :?

Looks like you might need unleaded seats fitted, or use an additive.
Best inserts are the Rover ones- P/no TAM2069. I got mine from MiniSpares UK.

Won't ever get a full tank of fuel ever again. Intention is boat ancor it (read as part with to the highest bidder) in favour of GT Starlet job.
