I bought a Fly Wheel puller from Karcraft, I removed the large bolt on the fly wheel plus the huge washer and then screwed in the 3 bolts with the puller and last night I proceeded to tighten up the puller and it go so tight it made a pop, me thinking it was the flywheel coming off but no one of the bolts threaded itself.

Any advice?

Did you take out the locking key after the lock tab?

Try double checking it is set up as it was supposed to be, (nothing between the end of the crank and the 'spacer' that came with the flywheel remover.

If it is definately right, get a new bolt (high tensile) for the shot one and try again. My 'sykes pikuvant' flywheel remover did the same thing, needed to replace all the bolts with good ones.

Once you have good tension on it, 'gently' bash it through the starter motor hole, with a block of wood. A Wooden handle from a mallet is good, nice and broad. Rotate the flywheel and repeat. do this a few times, tighten puller another half a turn and repeat.

careful the flywheel doesnt hurt anything when it comes off.

I had a bitch of a time trying to get a verto clutch off an A+ a while ago.
Here's what I did:

Get flywheel puller and High tensile thread bar. Grease everything up well.
I stripped a few of the nuts on the thread bar, but I solved that problem with more nuts.
I'd do a quarter turn, hut the end of the large puller bolt with a hammer, and go again.
Eventually I got impatient, so I took it all apart, greased it all again, and got the
impact gun out. It struggled for 30 seconds and the thread bar got stuffed, but it came
off eventually.

I have heard that if you tension it all up then leave it for a while and come back that sometimes it will loosen itself or pop off. I haven't tried this before though

Its a two piece flywheel, I will be taking in the motor to Greg tomorrow and probably see him wack it off in a matter of minutes.

He will heat three spots and give a light tap with a hammer and off she comes like magic

you must make sure that the puller is dead flat aligned with the flywheel.

no point trying to pull it off on an angle it must be square.

if still no luck get an oxy or gas flame on it and she will pop off liek no tomorrow

My puller is a piece of 20 plate that I found at the rubbish tip, with 3 holes for the bolts. Then I just use a bit of pipe for where it pushes on the end of the crank. Last time i used it, I just used the cylinder head studs and nuts to pull the flywheel off, because I didn't have any suitable bolts.

A trick I use... is once under tension.... poor some boiling water over the flywheel... that sometimes helps.

ps - keep fingers clear... I almost took off a finger changing the clutch with the engine in the car... flywheel came off with a bang and finger got slammed and sliced against the body... I'll now always take out the engine... as there's always other seals that need to be fixed...

(In reverse I leave the flywheel in the sun or other warm place before fitting.... goes on nice and tight...)

To stop the flywheel flying off when under tension , leave the flywheel bolt in place , but only screwed part way in .............

5mins and Greig got it off

He said that the small hole can be welded up while the gears are still in which is great news and once it is done I will go back with new gaskets and bolt it all back up at his shop.
