That's amazing! As Doc said Mini gearboxes can take it! (how long? who knows..) It's a bit of an urban myth that mini gearboxes can't take high power and torque but really they can, just wouldn't last for 200,000 Kms. Lucky for 100,000 kms At that power I'd think. Depends on how he drives, and If I owned it....   Yeah! I'd be going through the gearbox weekly! Haha, nah more like yearly...

They can take some power if treated kindly. Boostedmini got years out of his stock Mini K box with the 1360 turbo. 8)
They are NOT that strong if abused. Start doing burnouts and flat shifts, they will last no time at all.

Pffft gearboxes don't break themselves, people break gearboxes 8)

I have not done much to my gearbox other than rebuilt it and i will not be doing anything interesting other than show it respect

Kev's been running big HP for years on his S box, nothing bad to speak about it yet right Doc?

Saw it run on tuesday night, met the owner, nice bloke. He has tuned it to be quite mild mannered down low so as a street car this thing will be reasonably ok to drive, no worse than an N/A A Series with a lumpy Cam. All the monifolds intakes, exhausts intercooler were designed in such a way that they fit in the Bay, as he made them whilst the motor was in the car. He will have to pull it all off and reassemble once the motor is in. Hence, I guess why he is doing all the dyno work. once it is in he has no intention of pulling it out.

Cheers
Aaron

Mine's a Mk2 S box with 1275GT 1st motion shaft and mainshaft, still got all its gears.... and it was raced a bit before I got it.
I don't think my 120HP or so NA motor compares with this turbo torque monster though.
It'll come down to how he treats it, and tyre grip (or lack thereof).
If it was mine, I'd build a spare box.....

244hp @ 7000rpm on 16psi (176ft/lbs)

If he had used something other than a std mini crank he would have made more as the torque did not start dropping off at 7000 and probably would have kept going to 8000 which means there is potential to be 250+hp but they never ran it to that fearing catastrophy...

Found in an old thread,

A few years ago I met a guy that ran a red 850 Licence QIK850 at willowbank and it ran a 12.6 quarter. I chatted to him after the run and he said it was putting out about 180hp at the fly from a turbo A series, in street trim but with slicks on front.

We'll see what 234hp can do then......

Zac's biggest trouble in that one was traction , you just can't get enough rubber on the road in a standard looking mini , at the time it was 0.1 second of being the fastest fwd car in OZ , the one that held the record then had double the power from a Nissan engine from memory , just can't remember what it was . Zac now has the yellow convertible spercharged mini by the way .

Zac was dueling with Jamie Bezzinas? GTI then a nissan SSS pulsar came along and took about a second off both their best times...I remember it well as this was just before I built mine and I was wondering how much further they would go.

Jamie was claiming 350+HP but could only do (like you said) 0.1 quicker than ZAC!!

Fast Fours July/August 1992 has the car (QIK850) with a sprintex blower on it I think?

Daniel

The QIK850 started out as turbo'd , then went to the sprintex and then finally to a bigger turbo setup with water/methanol injection to reduce detonation . The original trubo was done by the now long defunct "turbo-shop" in Lismore but the rest was done by himself . Time to drag out the old photo's of it again , it was written off several years ago and Zac and his passenger got out very lightly for the damage done . That was when he decided to do the yellow convertible using a 997 shell I had waiting for a future resto (sacriligious I know but I had too many projects ...) .

The top shot is of the original build which was somewhere around 1986 or so , the next from when it was supercharged around 1990 , I drove it once like this and it was awesome to say the least .
