Then I thought- meh, they're only crappy old Contessas, who would steal em...

The old trick is the slightly smaller socket (cheapo) and hammer it onto the lock nut. Obviously if yours is an internal (like allen key) this won't work.

Most lock nuts for Minis are round with an external keyway, the BFH & chisel undoes `em fine...

You can take it to a bob jane or a tyre place and they will be able to rip it off with an air gun and some secret tool. I did this to for my mate after he lost his key, they charged me about $20 - $40 bucks. You should bring spare nuts because no, you will not be able to re-use the lock nuts!!!

You can use one of those "universal sockets" that are sometimes sold in crap stores.

Looks kind of like a spark plug socket with lots of little rods inside it,
when you push it over the nut the little rods conform to the shape of the nut.
Sell for under $10, but they don't last very long (the little bits break off)

I used to just get a wheelnut and weld it to the lock nut. On the next wheel I would weld the wheel nut and lock nut from the first wheel.
When you finish you have four lock nuts and a wheelnut welded together. 8)
