hey all ive had this problem for a while but now its really becoming annoying, i have a rattle under the car and i got a feeling its got to do with the gear stick cause everytime it rattles i hold or push down the gear stick and it stops, it will only do it while at a certain rev...

has anyone had this problem before or does anyone know how to fix it

i thought it might have juz been loose but everything seems tight juz wondering if its something to do with the ball at the end of the stick

Is it a remote or rod change?

Use the search button.

A rod change is the later type... uses two rods to connect the gear change to the gearbox. A remote change has one rod, which is contained in an alloy extension tunnel.

Rod changes use cotton reel mounts like exhausts... which can often be broken or worn.

I had exactly this problem on an old Mini 1100 with a remote change.. at something like 2,500 RPM it'd start buzzing like an insect.. only way to stop it was to hang on.

Mind you, this engine had like 25 PSI oil pressure hot running Penrite HPR50 so it was rough as guts, but there you are.

Tiny, don't expect a lot of help from many people that have read some of the bullshit you have posted up when you started using the forum.

If the linkage is all inside a long alloy box, it's a remote shift, not rodchange.
Remotes are better.. (puts on flameproof suit..) 8)

rod changes dont rattle, so its a remote change.

otherwise its your exhaust rattling against your gearshift or something wrong with your mounts

This was like 10 years ago, and I don't remember ever finding a permanent fix. I tried all sorts of stuff, but I from (my very poor) memory wrapping the ball on the end of the gear stick in gaffa tape might have been the best dodgy fix, albeit temporary.
