well yesterday i had a brain explosion and decided to change over my 1.25" to my 1.5" SU.

So i ripped out the standard manifold and put in the standard manifold with the different inlet manifold pattern.

i have hooked up everything, fuel lines, choke, accelerator etc but i cannot get a good idle...even with adjusting the idle screw.

now... i am certain i dont have the mixtures correct....but i just cannot get a decent idle...it will only idle at 1200rpm

it has constant hickup sorta things... and when i change gears the revs dont die down....so it is still revving at like 3000rpm when the clutch is in changing gears...

any ideas that i can try are appreciated...

this is really my first time at playin with changing carbies so be nice!!!

cheers tait..

PS. its a stocko 998 engine

Was the 1.5 rebuilt or old?
Did it work before (the 1.5 I mean)

Do you have oil in the daspot? If you push the piston lifting pin does it stick?
If you start the car, and rev it once (just blip the pedal) do the revs come down again?
Hop out, pop the bonnet/hood and rev it with your hand... what happens?
Do you have the spring hooked up to pull the fly closed again?

When are you in Syd next? I have about 7 1-1/2 and 1-3/4 SUs here, I am sure we could get it working.

Peter.

if it won't idle, it's probably sucking air. Spray some carb cleaner on the body of the carb. (don't do this when the cars been running for ages as it'll catch alight.....manifolds get hot) ifthe revs rise, it's sucking air. Check the seals on the manilfod to carb etc etc. did you check the spindle on the carb? If it is worn it'll suck air. If you still have issues, pull it off and stick the 1.25 back on, Then PM Graham in Aus, ask him very nicley if you can visit him with the carb and he might check it over for you

Cheers

Aaron
