I've got a oil leak on the left side of the dash on a 3 piece morris mini set up, common sense would say that its coming from the oil gauge. Has this happen to some one before and how do you fix it.

If its inside the cabin, then common sense would say that its the oil pressure gauge, provided its a mechanical gauge. The plastic line may have craked, or the ferral hasnt created a seal inside the gauge where the line goes in.

Well first off - you have to fix it coz apart from the mess it will make, its hot oil under pressure and has the potential (unlikely though) to pump the sump dry.

Yes - its from the oil guage and usually from the hollow pipe that carries oil to the gauge. Two types are commonly used - a plastic tube or a copper tube. The plastic tube can and does go brittle in time and cracks (or it simply comes off the union on the back of the guage) or splits.

The copper tube can come undone and may just need tightening of the holding nut. More commonly the solder begins to crack because of the vibration etc.

In either case whizz off to an auto spares place and buy a new one of the appropriate type. You will notice that regardless of the type there are a number of coils of tube somewhere. This is to absorb any vibration. Make when you fit the new tubing that you make some coils somewhere where they wont rub on something (or cook on the exhaust) and tie them together with a couple of cable ties.

LMAO - I had one of those speco oil guages and the thing filled up with oil...lmao - I tested it when i was at CDSC with 300 psi to prove a point to a fellow mini person who thought autometer guages can handle more pressure(autometer failed at 135psi!!). However dickhead me mixed up my guages(had 2 speco ones)and installed the one I basically gave a hammering to. Subsequently driving to work the next morning the oil guage slowly filled with oil...was panicing but had no reason to as it was all contained. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Shame it doesn't cycle through, could be a good indicator for an oil change.
