A worked mini with an S motor would give that $27,000 car a run for its money, not worth it imo.

Typical of the tightarse Mini community.

Look at it at the package.

Yes spending 20 grand on an engine would possibly beat the engine that is in this Rover, but then you only have 7 grand to get yourself a Rover, put it on 13s, add 8.4" disc brakes and a nice white paint job.

But where do you find another one...
not the easiest things to buy when you want one.
It doesn't matter what anyone thinks it is worth... as long as the purchaser is happy.

I rang up the owner of this green Rover (http://www.carpoint.com.au/used-car/MINI/COOPER/New%20South%20Wales/csn1130886.aspx), which he brought over from Japan and just arrived about a week ago.
The car looks good from the pictures.

He said he's got all the necessary paperworks, has been complied etc but it's unregistered. His reasoning is that he doesn't want to waste rego if he can't find a buyer. So as soon as he got one, he will give full rego.
He also it'll be an easy process and he offered to get it registered first under his name and I do the transfer later on.

I'm not so familiar with personal import and compliance stuff. All I know is that only pre-89 cars can be imported, '89+ cars can be imported personally but it's hard to get it complied and registered, etc.

Can anyone shed a light regarding this? How can you check if it's already been complied? I mean, the car has only arrived a week ago and it's already complied. I would've thought it takes longer...

Let say it's legit, when I bring it over to Melb, is the transfer going to be easy? Or do I have to go through the compliance process again?

Thanks,

Daniel

Once a car has been complied and registered here, it is treated the same as every other car in Australia....ie Like a car that was bought from a showroom new here.

If you've got your heart set on a Rover then do it, but have a shop around and don't buy the first one you see. willy sold his not too long ago for under 10 grand, and they can still be had for that. Of course, if you're after Rover Cooper specifically you WILL pay the "Cooper tax".

If I were you, I'd be looking at a restored Mk1 or Clubbie. You can get everything that these rovers has, but chances are the interior will be nicer, it'll have had a nice paint job, and it won't have the ugly rover grill :D At the end of the day though, it's entirely your choice.

PS, does anyone else think that this interior is entirely CHUNDEROUS?!?!?! That is just disgusting. It's like someone designed it to look like Sean Connery :?

Well I agree about the grille and IMO front end

Mk1 grille > Rover grille. Lots of people in Japan and UK and Europe convert them to Mk1 as well, it just looks more classic

I was referring to the upholstry, not the dash, though the old man is looking a bit "wooden" these days :P
