Here are the 3 style that came from the factory
Image

The Standard clubman had matt black grill with all raised highlights polished back to the aluminium. They also had Blue painted in the centre Leyland badge.

The "S" & "LS" had only the top and bottom highlight rail in polished alloy, the rest of the grill was all matt black. These S series models had Red paint in the Leyeland badge.

Personal customisation of the grill has been done in both directions, all black and all the balck polished off. All to your personal preference.

1275 LS ones are different again. Only the centre one of the 3 thingas isn't painted, along with the edges. You can just see if in the pic in my sig (or on the www.ausmini.com intro page).

Poeee: Don't know if yours is original or customed, but I have see several pics of your grill design around the web. No expert here by any means but the 1275LS original advertisement has the grill like I posted above. Perhaps they changed the style in the later years?

Come to think of it, I think I like that style best out of all of them.

and here's another question - the colour for the badge in the centre of the grill - are you sure it was only either blue or red? i've seen a lot of variations.

for instance, the replacement grill that got fitted to mine is Yellow in the centre, and i've also seen green. did this come out of the factory, or would it have been done elsewhere?

Again no expert - but I've only seen blue or red

perhaps these others are custom jobs to match a shell colour

i just checked the shots on my old grill, and it was black in the centre.

Minis seem to always leave me with more questions than answers.

Just a thought but Poeee yours looks like the ones that the clubman GTs had. I could easily be wrong though

pommie car?
Thought mine was Australian
The name Giovani is a long story, well not that long but am saving to share it with everyone when he has been re-built. So might get to tell it in next 5 yrs or so. :D
Seeing how there was an 'Italian Job' and not 'British Job' and my ancestry, think the names to stay. <insert evil laff here>
And wasnt it the Italians that gave Britain roads?

Cheers Guys/Girls

Thanx For the warm welcome
