To the best of my knowledge, the rear opening windows are the same size all the way through the minis from 59 to 2001. Please check though. If that is absolutely true then fitting opening windows to any mini is dead easy. I even have a number of opening windows kicking around from wrecked (parted out) minis.

And Yes, during my time in the UK, someone then near and dear to me had a district nurse job and the company car was a fixed window mini.

But here in Oz, midsummer, imagine the outcry if three rear passaengers died of heatstroke at a set of traffic lights at the inersection of Windsor Road and Pennant Hills (or some other state government sponsored "free parking " lot) due to non opening rear windows.

No , sorry Mike , the rear sides are taller on all Mk 3 onwards UK mini's and ours won't fit , the same as the rear windscreen is wider and taller as well .

Ian is correct.
We also lost the awful piano hinges for an even worse bendy steel strap hinge type of thing...

Not sure when the changeover was, but in the "late" Minis built for the UK market, the Coopers (and some limited editions) had opening as standard and the others had them as an option. For the japanese market where they had air conditioning it was an option on all models.

There is no difference in the openings - fixed window models have the holes pre-drilled for opening windows to be dealer fitted.

Wow thank you for the massive response to my question. My car is a Mayfair, I like that someone said it's the Statesman or Fairlane of the range.

It came from Japan, it has A/C, Half Leather interior and I have enclosed a picture so you all know what I look like and to check out the freak without rear opening windows. I only ever have my dogs in the back and it wasn't until the other day they were slobbering on the glass I thought I'll push out the hang on a minute, they don't push out :?

I wonder if this is a super rare model????

No of course not, the Jap owners were too cheap to add that option.

Thanks again for your help.

ALL Uk minis definatly had oppeners up till 82, i would imagine the sealed ones started in 86 along with the discs etc, just speculation.

Here in NZ, I am pretty sure early base model Austin's had fixed back windows, all Morris' and higher spec Austins had opening windows. My NZ assembled Austin 850 has fixed rears.

Surely the Cooper would be considered the performance model, therefore the SS/XR or HSV/FPV (if it had the John Cooper Garage upgrade) of the range :)

The cheapo ones in the 80s were the Mini City/City E & Sprite. The 1000 HL was the classy one in the early 80s until they made it the Mayfair in '82. In between were all the special editions like the 'Studio' & 'Advantage' which were generally City/Sprite spec with a couple of additions (like better/different wheels or wheel trims, rev counter, different coloured seats) and body decals.

Nope, it has nice carpets with white, black and pink flecks. The pink looks really nice against the Bermuda Blue paint, very '60's !!

pffft Rubber floor mats was all we got over here ..... I guess it adds to the bits you see written about BMC thinking we were a minor market and not sophisticated enough for more advanced and expensive models .
