AT "John R. Turk" an electrical wholesaler on the coast here, they have the spray packs for $89 at the moment.

Seems like a good investment, even just to act as a deterant.

It will not stop anyone pinching a Mini.
It may help Id a stolen car (or parts of a stolen car) at a later date but it will do nothing to stop someone driving off it it. :?

Yeah....Mr Wire Wheel meets Mr Data Dot....and how do they stand up to grit blast or paint stripper....would only work if the car wasn't being used for parts....Minis are a lot simpler than modern cars and therefore easier to rebirth.

Doesn't help when it's in pieces but is good to find it before it gets pulled apart .

Data dots are good , pretty hard to get off/damage but can be done . Just as easy though to get a set of metal stamps and stamp your licence number etc on things , just do it somewhere mostly out of sight and take a photo of each thing stamped , then if you see some bits you think are yours and they all have grinder marks where your photo's show the numbers were stamped you've still got enough to talk to the police with .

Does the stuff show up thru a new layer of paint or powder coating?? Wouldnt really deter me or give me peace of mind if I could just get it painted over...

There is no better security than having the car right where you can see it.

You can paint over them or wirewheel them, but the dots are so small and you spray so many of them on all over the car that they are hard to find. Put a couple of dots on the other side of a dashpot, underside of the steering wheel, fuel tank, seat rail, sump .... 8)

The dots or the glue(not sure which one) show up under UV light so you don't have to see them by naked eye to know they're there ...

Yes, they're designed like that so that the police can spot them. As a thief, you would need to be prepared to remove every single dot. 8)
