the seams seem okay, its hard for me to check as im in western sydney but the car is at doyalson i will go and have a look this weekend.

i have photos but none that show any damage as i fixed it all.

i asked my mate who has the car to send photos but he said the bend is more about measurements rather than a visual thing

Sills...that is the panels below the bottom of the doors and to the rear of the body that join to the floor underneath.

I may be naturally suspicious but this one sounds suss....get him to send you the measurements from point A to B and let us know

and keep in mind that minis are narrower that the front than at the back (is this right, or an urban myth?)

hes definetly not what you guys all think

its a rarity these guys but hes just an honest bloke

he was going to drive the mini down on a trailer himself before we started looking for a new body together. if he says its bent i believe him, he wouldnt be getting himself out of work because he said hed help me strip and redo a new shell if we found one

I hope he has made a mistake i honestly saw no bend and felt no problems while i drove it home from penrith

Well, if your looking for a brain, I have one here, immaculate condition, never used... the Mrs said I should keep it and use it, but its too much hard work.

Pete.

Back in the '60s when I had my first Mini I was rear ended and the car was 'shortened' . The doors popped and no way would close - 1" or so past the pillar. After it was repaired you would never know the difference and the panel beater commented "Thank goodness it didn't have a chassis as it was dead easy to straighten the shell and refit the subframes than trying to get chassis rails ligned up again. "

Get a second opinion

Definitely get a second opinion on it as I've seen some badly distorted mini shells straighened out on a body robot . Small panel shops often don't have the right gear to straighten bent or twisted shells so it would probably be a matter of taking the shell to someone who has the gear , getting it straightened and then taken back to your panel beater to finish .

i bashed another mini once. worst day EVER. i rear-ended it which is why my mini front is dinged up. i warped the whole boot, it would not close. the panel shop was able to straighten it all out and repaint it, they did a fantastic job.

see if you can take it to a big panel shop, but try not to offend your mate!!!

i tried taking it to big pannel beating shops not only did none of them want to touch it, but they all quoted prices i couldnt afford, some upwards of 10,000

they also gave a time line to finish it of around 8 months with no guarantee and no reassembaly

im a uni student and i havent got a budget like that, yes its a sunshine and yes it deserves to be done right and id be shattered to have to use another body but if it boils down to me being able to afford a diff shell over getting the sunshine done im sure everyone will agree it would be a better option

See if you can find someone with a robot or similar straightening setup and ask them for a quote just to make the body square again , nothing more and then stick with your original panel beater for the rest . Just squaring it up on the hydraulic table should be quite reasonable .
