Its great fun, whatever you bring. Something for everyone.

Best to think of the Show and Shine and Motorkhana as two seperate events. Many of the show cars don't compete in the Khana and of course the non-Minis are not displayed at the show.

Some (who will remain nameless) have been known to hire a car from Hertz etc for the weekend, compete in class F or G and return it Tuesday and say nothing.

it brings extra exclusivity to the event..

One year after Hays Heroes finished they run a grudge match between a hot rally prepared HK Monaro and a stock Rolls Corniche (spelling?). Watching the Rolls was like watching the QEII doing a khana, but in the hands of an experinced driver it was surprisingly quick. Funniest bit was the Rolls won. The Monaro got sideways and wiped out four or five flags.

Class A - up to 1050cc Mini Won by NSW
Class B - 1051 to 1250cc Mini NOT contested by NSW
Class C - 1251cc and over Mini Won by NSW
Class D - BMW Mini Not contested by NSW (Should be another non mini class anyway)
Class E - Mokes (all capacities) Won by NSW
Class F - All R.W.D. vehicles Won by NSW
Class E - All non-Mini F.W.D. vehicles Won by NSW
Only classes A - D are eligible for the Hay Hero Challenge. A & C won by NSW

I see a pattern emerging,

Hay, it's not about the car, it's not about the venue, it's about the people that come here. Peter Dwyer, Mayor of Hay NSW.

Cush,

The question you asked about non-mini classes I asked last year at Hay, and made a joke about a little Mazda, No one found it funny, and people take this subject very seriously, I was totally unaware but apparantly this goes back along way!

I have my opinions, which happen to be similiar to Hotbricks', but a little different on what they consider a 'Mini variant' and other things like 'originality of cars' but I agree, with the Mini nations, for mini, and moke, and mini variants only too.

Which brings about the define a variant. Is a Morris 1100 a mini varaint, I say yes. Many others say no. And so on, I'm thinking about joining Mini Club of SA to see why there rules are their rules and what's what.

On the Hay weekend, here in SA, there was an weekend of the MG, a hillclimb, and supersprint, I was going to attend but too busy, but I was not going to enter my car (I could have, but it's not an MG, so yeah why would I enter?)

The Show and Shine would be good if the Best Original categories only had ORIGINAL cars in them, not cars with fricking leather seats and stereos (original my ass)

i think the issue is

class F and class G give points to the gbs (overall trophy)
but are non-mini classes

i think they give as much points as the mini classes, and theres 2 non mini classes so it can and has made a big difference determining the winner of the gbs.

In addition there is one mini club which prohibits the use of non mini derivative vehicles in competition under its banner.
