I have been watching the Tassie weather. I was to move to tassie (on the west coast to Rosebery) in July however have now postponed the move to September.

Don't postpone on account of the weather, its never any good in Rosebery. Most people don't live in Rosebery anymore, they just stay there during their shift and go back to the north coast in between.

Used it in the old falcon I had as it was in the boot when I bought it - it increased the smoke(good smoke screen too)

I was warned by a few people down here not to put any additives to mini oil as it doesnt go well with the box. However I do use the Lucas oil stabilizer in the soob and works a treat - the old L-series tappet noise is enough to drive you mad(yes it is worse than a loose timing chain in a mini!!). Sound advice on Doogies behalf and it lasts a while too(I bought the lucas stuff a year ago and still have 3/4 of a bottle left)

When I first reco'ed and rebuilt the 1310 motor (with all new parts including a high volume oil pump) the oil used to drain out of the engine and on start up there was no oil pressure (although good once primed and running).

This only happened after a few days of the mini standing I used to have to undo the oil cooler and manually prime the oil pump. Ran fine then.

I put Lucas oil stabiliser in at the recommended level and the pump stopped draining. It hasn't done it since and thats after several oil changes without further Lucas Oil.

I suspect the original problem was ultra clean oil ways and oil pressure producing components, I doubt it was a sticking oil relief valve.

In that respect oil additives definately do work but not as a quasey engine reconditioning agent.

I tried some stop smoke in a worn out 998 I had. No difference at all to the smoke! My theory is that if you put thick oil in, it stops smoking briefly but the force of the thick oil makes the rings/guides worse, so that when you put standard 20w50 back in it smokes a lot more. Stupid theory I know, but I'm sticking to it!

If it is a shot engine and gearbox, sure try it. If you value the gearbox then don't. Chances are it will create drag on the primary gear and you won't be able to select gears easily as has already been mentioned.

I'd be interested in trying that Lucas oil stabiliser, never heard of it but hell I'll try anything once, except line dancing. Not speaking too soon, but the stuff I put in my radiator the other day does seem to have at least improved the crack in my block. I'm not a believer in miracle cures though so I'm skeptical as to whether it will last.

i put a coulpa bottles in a 78 corrola (3k) that had done 220,000k, without any work, it reduced the smoke a bit, then a rod snapped and a piston shattered (different cylinders), it still ran  but the smoke came out the bonnett vents and the hole in the block, as well as the exhaust :D
