I was thinking earlier this evening is there a difference between a stock 1100 alternator and that off a 1275? Or are they the same amp rating?

3 types were used here that I know of-
15AC used on Mini K/Cooper S/Minimatic from 1969. Separate regulator used. rated output 28A.
15ACR used on early Clubby- all metal casing with no plastic cover. Internal voltage regulator. Rated output 28A.
16ACR used on late Clubby- looks like 15AC but plastic cover is bigger. Internal voltage regulator. Rated output 34A.

I looked at yours when we inspected car, I think it is a 15ACR.

if it ain't broke, don't fix it. 8)

In my experience often badged as a 15AC even though they are internally regulated. Never quite figured that one out :?

I recently had mine go on the 78 LS 1275. When i went to replace it, it was a 17A, and replaced with a 16A.

So was the 17A originaly suppose to be there?? i don't know?? :?

I don't believe any Australian Minis were fitted with 17ACRs from the factory, however they are pretty common on MGBs and Triumphs etc, and they generally bolt straight on and give a higher output.

Throw them away and fit one of Mine ....65 amp. The old ones are 9 times aou of 10 not worth fixing as they only charge under 35 Amps.
