I have found a heater in a pile of stuff I had lying around. . .as far as I know it is a 'fresh air' type heater that sits above the clutch housing in the engine bay - I believe these were an Australia-only item.
Its a more-or-less rectangular box about 260x160x120mm in size.

Does anybody have any specific info as to what models these were original fitment for? I seem to remember that they were a Mini Matic item. . .but that's only a vague memory

my deluxe had one.

I believe it was a standard Deluxe item - also I hear some Cooper varients had them.

Washer bottles moved to bulkhead to make room for it.

I had mine re-cored and reconditioned with the radiator on my lil Deluxe and it workes 'well' - ie: a bit of warm breath when your moving. Warms the cabin up eventually with a rear window cracked open slightly.

Seems like a huge addition under the bonnet for little gain. But Im slowly learning these things about Minis.

it was a standard item for mini-matics, i think only some deluxes had em and mini k's also had them (early ones). By memory they were to help cooling for mini-matics(reason they were standard)

the one on my deluxe was very effective.

Anyone have photos showing how and where it is installed? I have one to install ( primarily as an additional cooling source- heating/demisting as secondary here in sunny Queensland ) and I can't quite figure where it goes on the inside fender. The brackets on it are fixed at different angles and I can't get them all to make contact at the same time. Also was there rubber gromets or something between the body and the bracket?

The fresh air heater was standard on the Matic (from late 1967)
The Deluxe didn't have a heater standard (neither did the K)
It was the optional heater for Australian Minis from 1965. ($34.36 or $55.36 fitted!)

There are 2 types-
early one had bolts at bottom as well as top.
Later ones like mine had a steel U-bracket bolted to the inner guard, and the bottom of the heater had a rubber wedge slotted thingy, similar to a Moke bonnet hinge. You push heater down until the rubber V is over the steel bar, then fit the 2 top bolts.
Here's how it mounts in the engine bay- basically it is up as far as will fit.
The white thingy in the ducting is an Attwood 3" bilge blower, ~$50 from Bias Boating Warehouse. If you don't fit something like this you have NO heat in traffic.
