As was stated in the original post, Vic's already got PvWeight restrictions.

WHY SHOULD IT ONLY APPLY TO P-PLATERS?

Really, who NEEDS a 300Kw GTS Monaro? Who NEEDS a Turbo XR6 Ute?
Who NEEDS a 300 Hp 4wd WRX?

Seriously, while P-plater's are still gaining experience on the road, it doesnt help that manufacturers continually build car's that spit in the face of Speed Limit's.

My history includes: 3 speeding fines, a dozen undue noise fines, but NO accidents while on my P-plates.

I had my accidents after I'd done 3 years on my P's. Out of three accidents, two were my fault. One from inattention, and hit the back of another car. One from being a D***head, and putting my own car off the side of the road and into a tree. The other was having another car drive into the side of mine at a T-intersection through a Stop Sign. That guy was about 60, and told the cop's I admitted liability.

To avoid the drama, drive as attentively as possible, and keep your eye's open. If ya can see something unusual about to happen, slow down, and be prepared to stop.

Fortunately in none of those accidents was anyone injured, and a bottle of rum in the tray of the ute I hit survived as well.

Oh yeah. If makka comes back, I'm not here either.

and moker the sad fact is there are truck drivers out there who do this and the really sad fact is what happend on the f3 north of sydney i hope the driver of that truck is never aloud to hold a licence ever again i hope he is throwen in prison to rot for the rest of his life i don't condone drugs or unsafe loads or dangerouse truck's and i will not drive them i will not drive out side my hours i have two fines in a truck once was the result of a accident car sitting in my blind spot i thought i killed the guy i watched the car go under the tri axel on the trailer my heart stoped . ten minutes later im sitting on the side of the rd balling my eye's out lucky for me he did not get injured i would never drive again if i hurt a person while in control of a heavey vehicle . all i got was a fine for $198 because the driver told the police he was in my blind spot .
other fine was when i was bobtail busy munching on chicken at orange in a fifty zone not payin attention got done 15 and under was doing 61kays
so for a person who dose over 40,000 kays a year i think that is good ....
but gee how can you compare that with a person who drives if there lucky 10,000 kays in a year ......
hey your welcome to put crap on truck drivers but just remember long haul drivers are useually under great presure to get the load there why ??
because large corperation's like woolworths coles safeway bilo iga and companys of there ilk force driver to make it there and what happens if they dont get there the driver may have to sit round for 2 or 3 days waiting to be unloaded or told they dont want the load anymore cos it has to be fresh .......
oh yeah just remember truck drivers also bring all your food to the markets ....
truck drivers bring the containers of the warve's with your mini parts in them....
so hell say what ya want bout us but when the cards are down with out truckies australia stops
makka

There must be something about driving trucks that slows me down. I drive a truck on the most dangerous, misbegotten piece of road in NSW...the Princes Highway south of Wollongong down to Eden and have never had an accident or been booked for speeding in a truck in 30 years. In that time I have had one speeding fine in a car but in reality I should have lost my license many times as I habitually speed in a car. I have had one big car accident recently being forced off the F6 in a road rage incident at about 110KPH towing a kart trailer and we rolled the lot. The other driver was a P plater with stolen number plates and he drove away from the scene and was never seen again. Why he had P plates on a car with stolen plates has got me but he did. Truck drivers I think have about the same percentage of mad drivers as any other segment of the driving population. I look at bike riders and shake my head in disbelief. Double lines do not mean anything to them and speed limits are just a mild irritation to be ignored. The maddest things I have ever seen on the road have been done by bike riders. I was present at an accident and hosed the blood off the road from three of them who died in a head on with a truck and the truck driver was so devestated they took him to hospital. It was all down to the riders and their stupidity and they paid for it. So I reckon that P plate drivers are no worse or better than anyone else. What they lack is experience and to get that they have to drive. What they have now and was not available in the past is grossly overpowered vehicles and this is the crux of the matter. Driver training will not change a thing, believe me I have actually been involved in advanced training. All it does is give the pupil some idea of how he or she can go faster safer. If it were an advantage then you can bet that all the insurance companies would make it compulsory to do a course.

I Think the point here is there have been too many poeple killed on the roads reciently ... life is a presious gift & it can be taked from any of us at any time ... & dont think anyone is too choosy who goes next .Young or Old .... you cant always prevent an accedent but what I think there saying is that sometimes exeprience helps (I know theres only one way to get experience) but would hate it If I was driving & killed my best mate cause I ****ed up would be hard to live with . I had a mate kill himself afterhe was driving the car his best friend was killed in when they were 17

i've been there and i've rolled cars but also i'm happy to be here alive so if you guys wanna go hard go hard and when you end up hurt you have no one but your selves to blame but just one thing .....

That's exactly where the problem is peer group pressure which is why they want to reduce the number of occupants a p plater can have in the car if they have been busted doing silly stuff. I think they should make it 1 passenger max until they get their full licence.
The whole power to weight thing won't really work but it will help, because when i was on my p's i had a 1.8lt 4cyl commodore (vc if ya want to know) and it was scary on smooth corners i can go around in the mini half as much faster and my current falcon can easily double what the commodore did. It's just that the mini and the falcon are by far more competent than my commodore was.

Bad car + bad driver = awful result
Good car + bad driver = bad result
Good car + good driver = very few accidents
Good car + good driver + defensive driving course = even less accidents

The defensive driver training i did as part of my AAMI insurance deal (they wouldn't insure me in my falcon if i didn't (4 yrs ago)) was a real eye opener for me cause i was all macho like yaeh watch me blitz this.
I drove away with a mutch better attitude then when i started and still carry that knowledge with me today because it works no matter which car you are driving in.

my 2.2c (inc gst) worth
