silly question that I'm sure one of you will answer in 2 seconds - when was the end of Australia mini production (clubman not 1275LS)?

Looking at a 1978 car this arvo just want to get a feel for when it all wound up

cheers

Kevan

I thought they all wound up in September/October 1978, except for Mokes....

You may find some with later dates, as the compliance plates were stamped just before sale, not when built..

Mokes were sold up until '82 I think....

I'm sure I've seen clubmans produced in '79... or at least sold then

and they were still selling mokes so the dealers were still going?

I wonder if they were still dedicated Leyland dealers, or old Leyland dealers who'd moved to other cars and kept the mokes coming through...

According to wikipedia, Leyland Australia finished up in '82.. I wonder what cars, other than mokes, were sold at that time. Probably just Rover 3500's. Seems from '75 on, only minis and mokes were built by Leyland in Aus. My mum has 2 Triumphs, a '76 that was built in England, and a '73 that was built in Melbourne by AMI

The dealers were still selling other fine Leyland (imported) products like Triumph, Jaguar and Rover.
Actually most dealers has already jumped ship and were selling Jap cars. My nearest dealer became the local Datsun dealer.

The Minis were all gone by early 79 and only the Mokes remained. When they stopped making Mokes at Enfield they started assembling Peugeots.

Leyland Australia changed its name to JRA, Jaguar Rover Australia.

an ex-BMC/Leyland dealer near me who now works as just a small country town mechanic has a heap of magnificent old advertising banners, including a huge one proclaiming P76 as the car of the year. Step back in time walking in there...

The BMC/Leyland Dealership that I was working at had gone to Chrysler and then that went to Mitisubishi
