I don`t mean to Bag Vizard at all, but i don`t believe he spent much time working with sorting the issues of running a 2" SU on a large capacity road going mini engine, & most of his work in his books shows off stuff that has been & can be done to the "Average" mini engine, (Road/Rally & Race) by the "Average" Joe Blow & his work is excellent in that regard.
& with respect to the question--> "how long will it last?"
Do you mean how long will the 2" carby last? or how long has my 1510cc engine lasted?
The carb will last for ages, it`s just a carby.
& my 1510cc engine is still in good nick, nearly 9 years running on the road/rallys/hillclimbs/sprints etc etc & a Targa tasmania rally (2002) & then another year of club motorsport & is now out for a simple re-ring & bearing re-build. easy-peasy. it will go another 10-20 years i expect too. It`s only quite mild engine build with respect to the cam shaft profile & compression so it doesn`t work hard producing it`s power, it happilly pulls wide open throttle at 1000 rpms & revs to 7800. It`s just a road motor, hence the SU carb, (but i did run a weber on it at Targa tassie Rally tho, the weber gave me that tiny bit more in the upper rev range simply because the manifold is a better design.
In car Targa Rally video footage of it here--->
