i've got the pump mounted on the subframe, I'll bypass the mechanical pump which is easy enough, The earth wire is simple enough, I'm guessing i should run the power wire to the fuse terminal in the engine bay and use the same side as the green wires as thats what i kinda worked out from the wiring diagrams in the workshop manual (ala Clubman GT)???

this is the carb that i sold you right, because it started and ran fine once we sorted that problem with the needle, i put the little breather caps on there because i didn't run a charcol canister,

alot of people may disagree but i say try the way that i first started the motor with this carby, put a lock grip on the fuel feed and get a peice of hose and gravity feed fuel or start ya basterd through the breathers, just something to try,

no one has suggested measuring how much the mech pump pumps, or would we be looking for preasure over volume

I still think its the mechanical pump as i pulled the line off and turned the motor over to see how much it was pumping out, and it was next to nothing. I've since almost finished an electric pump installation just need to find out where to get power from.

Think i might need to send mick a PM.

I dont think its a carb issue at all as it had the same problem with the old carb.

but i still need to get it running right ie. mixture settings

oh and wiring, is that the set up where they have it coming from the fuel level sender, i thought that would have played havoct on the pumps performance, when the fuel sender registers a low fuel level the pump wouldn't really be pumping at full jolt

I didn't think about how the pump would be pumping slowly at idle... I only use electric ones

run a wire from the fuse box - the side with all the green wires coming out of it, which are the various fused ignition power for gauges etc. so yeah, same as a clubman GT

Finally have gotten the little mongrel to run.

Electric pump fitted and running,

Still no go.....

Pulled float top off and checked float level, just over half fuel, cleaned rubbish out of the needle valve and checked the gap as per the manual. Seemed close enough as there wasnt any washer to remove.

Wound down the mixture adjusting nut a fair way down to try and introduce some more fuel.....

Feed some fuel in her through the vacumm advance port........

And Bang away she went......Chugging considerably........

Had a read of the manual to try and work out how to adjust the settings so it would run cleaner......

Have now got a reasonable idle and acceleration.........

I'm happy for now......off to a specialist tomorrow to hopefully get the correct settings and tune!!

In the end I think it was a combination of an ordinary mechanical pump (which could hardly produce a weak inconsistent trickle on the starter), A dirty needle valve in the float, and operator error in the installation and setup with regards to mixture adjuster nut settings.

I think I've now aged another 4-5yrs and lost some more hair colour.........and there's also the couple of days where my mrs wouldnt talk to me!!!!
