Was talking to a friend at a party this week who is HEAVILY into rotaries, and drag racing em, when I happened to mention dropping a rotary into a mini shell.....

A mate of his who just spent $18,000 on his RX3's 13B turbo engine was totally DEVISTATED when a "crappy looking" blue mini absolutely FLATTENED his RX3 up the 1/4 mile at Adelaide International Raceway...

All I know about this mini is that it is a blue morris, daily driven, 998cc (and supercharged??) running 10 inch wheels.... it looks like your average mini.

I have seen it in action.... but know little about it. Im sure someone here knows more about it.

Just another success story 8)

OH.... and it apparently pulled a mid/high 13 second pass

I certainly would like to know more about that Mini. What a great effort coming from a front wheel drive to beat the RX-3 13B turbo.

that's Ben.
the guy that does the supercharger kits
he drives a blue roundnose with a 998 donk running 14 pounds through his mr12 supercharger. runs 14 second 1/4
its no longer his daily driver, but was.

i have his number if anyone wants to contact him about the same supercharger conversion, i think he does it for $1200 off of memory.

i had a pic of it somewhere, but i think i lost it

good bloke, hard to get to talk tho, modest and shy.
he's a fitter and turner by trade. currently doing the same conversion that brad just finished. starlet gt turbo into an orange clubby.
with kad 4 pot vented disc brakes off of memory.

Is that "MINIAC" that was on display at Minis at the Mill in November?

something must have been wrong with the rotary cause any well sorted 13b turbo with 18000 spent on it should pull 11's, even 10's. heck, a well sorted bridge port will pull 12.5.
Thats good numbers for a mini though, however a mini will struggle to beat a well sorted 13BT whatever the mini has in it.

ahh no its not "MINIAC" who, close
ben did a kit for miniac.
miniac has a 1275 etc etc, but only running 7psi i think.
they're very similar but i think bens is more of a purpley blue.

damn that sounds like a challenge to me.... one day there'll have to be a showdown, whether the rotary boys know about it or not. Street developed brick against street developed rotor...

maybe the fact we should be focusing on is that a 998 is running 14's.
didnt cooper s's back in the day run a 17.9 factory standard?
respect.

Yup, thats a challenge boys, Id love 2 c the day a front drive, turbo/blown mini keeps up with a well sorted 13bt, even if its in a HJ Kingswood (Mazda Roadpacer) It will never happen, talk to the Pac Boys, consistent 8's and 9's outta street driven cars. Its all about power to weight, dont forget an RX3 only weighs a little over 800kg, compared 2 minis 600kg odd. Ya gunna get a lot more hp outta of a turbo wankel then a prehistoric A series.

Gotta love stirring up trouble!!!! hahaha

Yes that is a decent time for a 998cc though!!!

I'm trying to figger out how ya can spend 18k on a chook cooker donk.

But anyways, for that sorta money, that Scrotary should be doing 10's at the MOST.
