OK, being an old codger I'm aware that the Oz Cooper S got a Triplex laminated screen from the start, and I know all the common Minis back then didn't- they had a zone toughened one.
I guess maybe the Clubby GT got Triplex too?
Was a laminated windscreen standard factory fitment on later Clubbies- if so when did they come in?

Kev

Also an old codger, my 77 clubbie had an laminated when I bought it 15 years ago.

My 68 Cooper S also had a laminated windscreen back in late 70 when I bought that.

Probably doesn't help you

AFAIR laminated came in about the time when seat belts came in and it was strongly recommended (mandatory?) that you fit seat belts when fitting a laminated screen.

Obviously, they were a lot tougher on human heads than the old zone toughened glass.

Seat belts came in in 1965, my `70 Matic has the zone toughened one still, not laminated.
As I said in the `60s only the S got it standard, that's because it was mandatory for competition then I think.

Solly..wasn't being Mini-specific...just generalizing...so...if you chose to "upgrade" to one of the "new" fangled laminated screens it was "mandatory" to have seat belts fitted....if ya get my drift :?

The Cooper S got the laminated screen because they were most likely to be used on the track where a laminated screen was mandatory.
I would imagine that the Clubman GT got the same treatment.

The special editions near the end of production got laminated screens but the normal models still got the plain one.

My 1977 clubby S has a laminated screen and I have no reason to think it was anything else other than a factory or dealer fitted item. By the same token I dont know it hasn't been a replacement. I have owned the car for 15 years now though and it wasn't changed in my time.

my 78 S has a laminated windscreen, but it has "12-89" written on it... i also knoow it has been in a smash as the passenger floor is a bit dinged up, one of the panels is crap and i keep finding little boits of smashed 9safely) glass in it. so i dunno, the windscreen has definately been replaced, but whther the safety glass was from a toughened windscreen or side window? not too sure

What does the glass symbol look like? Is the usual AS symbol with laminated written beneath it?

Original laminated ones in the 60's had `Triplex' on them.
