Great info on the late production MK1's . For the early cars produced between Aug and Nov 65 what was the loop pile carpet like? Ive heard it said it had a grey speckle thru it with the dominant colour the same as the trim colour. Also that the loop was very short . Is it available anywhere

GT- Anton?
Seems to be a bit of confusion here.
First pic is a MK2 S or Mini K upholstery..
Second pic is a 997 or maybe 998 Cooper but the body colour seems to be from a 997 Cooper.
Third pic is a late Mini Deluxe or MK 1.5 Cooper S. This upholstery pattern dates from around the time the wiper panel was changed in early 68 for the Lucas OZ wiper mechanism.
The first type Mini Deluxe/MK 1 Cooper S upholstery was the same pattern as the 997/998 Cooper. The door trims were the same as 64cooper's pic. This was used from 65 to late 67 early 68 when it was changed to the second type.
My first S a 66 build had the Westminster/Office type carpet but I'm told the really early ones had the same flecked carpet as the 997/998 Coopers.
The Westminster carpet is basically an office carpet and is very similar to the Tretford carpet which is available from a place in Queensland. Do a Google for Tretford. The Tretford carpet is reported by others to be a bit thicker but is as close as you will get today unless you can find some NOS.
The MK 2 S used a loop pile style of carpet and the Clubman GT used the same or similar carpet.
Edit re the door cards: There is no stiching on the door cards just a heat embossed line either in the early rectangular style or the later multi line style. Also the MK 2/ Mini K upholstery material is different to the MK1/ Mini Deluxe. The MK 2 type has a coarser grain.

Hope my ramblings help

The flecked type carpet was used only on 997/998 Cooper . I think it is still available from Newton Commercial . The first Mk1 S had a loop pile carpet from August 1965 until November 1965 , sourced from New Zealand , as per my previous post on page one of this thread .............oh , Gibbon Group phone number is there also , for Tretford Carpet . Door trims also changed about this time , late 1965 , early 1966 , from the very early ones as in 64cooper's pic to the type in my last pic , with the 8 folds or stripes . The door trims changed again in late 1968 to the Mk2 type

Thanks for info . Can you tell me if the colour of the loop pile carpet fitted to aug - sept 65 S's was the same as or matched to the vinyl trim colour or was all carpet black?

Carpets fittted to Aussie Cooper 997/998 had the grey fleck , with the main colour matching the trim colour . This was an English idea , and many English Cooper's have the fleck pattern on some trim panels also , eg : speedo panels , door trims , rear wheel arch covers etc . This was discontinued when Aussie Mk1 Cooper S production began in August 1965 . Carpets were one colour to closely match the trim and paint ( well close enough for BMC anyways ). Mk2 carpets were mostly black which had a tendency to fade to a dark green colour over time , although other colours , such as blue were used

Edit : I don't think I have ever seen black carpet or trim in a Mk1 S , ( not original anyways) , although i guess it must have been available at some stage
