Just thought i'd ask opinions on rocker chioce not sure which way to go..1330,Re13,very worked head,twin 1.5's...Whats the best rocker ratio for this type of setup? Been told 1.3 but how would 1.5 go? cheers for any opinions

i have 1.5 roller rockers on my 1360 with re-13t and it works fine.
dont know about 1.3...

1.3s work ok with a re13t but 1.5s are better

On a bored out 1275 with RE13 cam-
If you want it to have a great top end fit 1.5s.
If you want good midrange and less power above 6000 fit stock pressed steel rockers (which I measured at 1.18 with RE13 cam).

1.3 rockers are in between, but if I was paying $$$ for new rockers I'd buy 1.5s (unless for a smallbore).

I recently managed to get 1.31:1 from a set of pressed steel 998 rockers after making and fitting 1.1mm offset rocker bushes, it's a bit of work though. PM me for details if you want.


Stock 1275 S forged rockers I found to be crap for lift- 1.16:1 using an RE13, with a new HD rocker shaft and good bushes. I wouldn't bother...

They are the sintered metal type that was fitted from about 1978. As used in very late Aussie production and continued into the A+ engines. A lot of people say that the metal is rubbish.

I would not use rollers in an "everyday engine" they do not like any debris in the oil. And seeing how the oil in a Mini collects a lot of crap from the gearbox that would really shorten the life of the rollers.
I think that rollers are really only suited for competition engines that are not clocking up big miles between rebuilds.
But once you start to get bigger lift and bigger ratio arms you really need the roller tips to take the side loads from the valve guides.
It is a tough call!

I have S forged rockers, supposedly 1.3 I think. But I think they are only for originality, not worth bothering with from what I've read about Dr Mini's testing.

yes s rockers are 1.3, but not very consistant across the rockers.

Thread hi-jack what needles are you using in your twin 1.5 it sounds like you have a simular engine spec to mine which i am currently building up a set of twin Su's

A good starting piont are ABU with blue springs on twin 1.5's..But will have to play around a bit..cheers

What you choose would really depend on your cam and the compression of your motor.If you are using a long period cam 1.5 rockers would IMO be a waste of money.

If you want 1.3 ratio rockers,
I brought a set of offset bushes from Jonspeed in the UK for my pressed steel rockers. They are advertised as 1.5 but thats BS. They may be 1.25 if I am really lucky.
Not as good as the docs tho.

The aftermarket forged S ones sold by Minispares and Minimania are supposed to be 1.3, but I've not seen or tested them.
But standard S rockers are nowhere near 1.3:1, they have less lift than all the others including those sintered ones.
I got 1.16 for a good set when checked with an RE13 cam, even sintered ones gave me 1.18.
I've run Minispares 1.5 forged rockers for years in my 1360, the rocker tips & bronze guides are still good after 40,000+ miles.
OTOH, I've seen Mini***** 1.5 roller tip ones wear flats on their rollers in 10,000km. This makes them worse than useless.
When it comes to roller rockers, you get what you pay for.
