Gday all,
Two technical questions: -
Can anyone with access to the plethora of factory technical information out there in archive boxes, please see if you can help with:
1.) - The timing (VIN no.) for when the MK2 S went from MK1 style Lockheed Brake Booster to PBR VH44 (I think) - changes would have been documented in areas such as RH inner fender / wheel arch (different drilling for booster mounts), different style booster vacuum hose, different brake pipe routing / style.
2.) - Date / VIN when BMC started fitting Aussie Compliance plates wth ADR'S listed that also included production month / year.
I am thinking 1/ 1970 as I haven't seen any 1969 MK2's with either of these features.
Any info / discussions / opinions / thoughts or even rumours would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks and kind regards Gavin

According to the PUB1056M Factory Parts Catalogue the Lockheed was fitted from YKG2S4 501-1613 and the VH44 from 1614.

For those who are not aware there's a company called Hydroboost here in Melbourne who supply reconditioned boosters of various makes, including the Lockheed and PBR VH-44J as fitted to the MK II S.
http://www.hydroboost.com.au/
VH44J's are $255 outright purchase or $155 changeover (mine was an outright purchase). Some good technical information on the site as well.

Just a reminder that the VH44 was optional on all other Minis from at least 1965. So a 1966 Deluxe with a VH44 is not a mistake.

But were they exactly the same VH44's on other Minis as on the MK II S? On the Hydroboost site they talk about the various internal configurations of similarly looking boosters to cater for drum versus disk brakes and other characteristics. The MK II S is a VH44-J.

Thinking further, maybe the Lockheed boosters weren't entirely suitable for non-S braked cars so a VH44 was used even though Lockheed stock was obviously available. And then, when the Lockheeds ran out during the MK II S production run a different VH44-J was fitted (same spec as the Lockheed).
Just a thought.

They would have used the PBR booster as an option as it was available. The Lockheed was not very available, the only ones that they had were fitted to the S.
No point bringing out a heap of Lockheed boosters on the off chance that someone was going to option one. Just nip down to PBR and pick up a VH44B off the shelf.

they ditched the Lockhead because of the Governments policy on having Aussie components in Minis at that time.
