Stupid question.

What is the orange warning light under the temperature guage on a Rover Mini with three guage dash? I am presuming it is the oil warning light?

If it is, why when I am driving will the light go off, but when I am stationary, the light flickers intermitantly?

I am presuming either.

1. Not enough oil in engine - I have checked and it is just under max on the dip stick.
2. Not enough oil pressure at low revs - What is the cause of the problem and how does one fix this?
3. Bad oil pump?

Is the car OK to drive (it seems to be) or am I doing damage?

THANKS.

Most likely a dodgy oil pressure switch. They don't last forever.

I reckon low oil pressure, since it's a Rover, it's probably never had the engine rebuilt - how many miles on it?

does the light go off and stay off if you sit it on say 2000 rpm at the lights?

On the subject of Rover warning lights, mine has a rocker switch in amongst the other rocker switches.

It looks like a brake pad type symbol. Maybe it's not. The switch doesn't stay on. It's only on for as long as you hold it down.

You hit the switch. The light lights up red, but that seems to be about all it does. Does anybody know what it actually does?

HA /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ that was giong to be my next question..!!!!

My Rover has 38,000 odd kilometers on it and imported from Japan. Probably hasnt had a rebuild given the relative low number of k's on it. The light goes off once revs hit 1000. For some reason it sits at about 500 when its idling. That seems pretty low to me for a Mini..!
